Swiatek Looks to End Five-Match Losing Streak Against Ostapenko in Stuttgart Quarterfinal
The former world no. 1, Iga Swiatek, will be meeting Latvian Jelena Ostapenko for the sixth time at the 2025 Stuttgart Open. The WTA world No. 2, Swiatek, received a first-round bye as one of the top four seeds at the Stuttgart Open. In the Round of 16, she continued her clay dominance, defeating Jana Fett in straight sets. Meanwhile, Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion with a world ranking of No. 24, had a walkover win over Dayana Yastremska. In the last 16, she had a deciding set match win over Emma Navarro.
The 23-year-old Pole has been dominant in the season, consistently reaching semifinals and finals. While Ostapenko had her best play at the 2025 Qatar Open, defeating top players like Swiatek, Jasmine Paolini, Ons Jabeur, Liudmila Samsonova and Aoi Ito. However, she has a straight-set loss to Amanda Anisimova in the finals.
Ostapenko is unbeaten against Swiatek in five previous meetings, with a head-to-head of 5-0. The Pole has won four French Open titles, including three straight wins in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Ostapenko did win at the Roland Garros in 2017; however, her performances on clay courts have been rather inconsistent in recent times. Both world No. 2 and world No. 24 have aggressive playstyles but contrasting skill sets. Swiatek has won 22 singles career titles, while Ostapenko stands at eight. In this season, Swiatek has already won 21 of 27 matches, while Ostapenko seems to be struggling, with 7 wins in 16 matches.
With the surface advantage and her form, Swiatek will aim to snap Ostapenko’s five-match winning streak against her. However, Ostapenko, who, even though with an inconsistent season, remains a dangerous opponent.

Even with Swiatek’s career match win rate of 84% over Ostapenko’s 58%, key stats such as return game strength and a flawless 5–0 head-to-head record give Ostapenko a little advantage heading into the quarterfinal. Ostapenko’s dominance in both first and second serve returns further supports her case. However, Swiatek’s exceptional clay-court record (88% win rate) and consistent form make her a serious contender to finally break Ostapenko’s streak.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets
Iga Swiatek win: 2/7
Jelena Ostapenko win: 13/5
