Winner to face Keys or Muchova in the QFs.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek looks to improve her unbeaten run to 10 matches, as she takes on Clara Tauson of Denmark in the National Bank Open 2025 Round of 16 on Sunday. The Polish superstar hasn’t dropped a set in over a month, and hasn’t conceded more than three games in a set across her last four encounters. With a chance of reclaiming the World No. 2 ranking this week in Montreal, there is a lot at stake for Swiatek. How does BetMGM analyse her chances against the Danish prodigy? Let’s find out.
Going into the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Iga Swiatek hadn’t won a tour-level title in over a year. She stunned the world by outdoing herself on grass, winning her sixth major. The Pole reached four semis and three quarters in her first seven tournaments of the year, before relinquishing her crown at Roland Garros. Swiatek then made the final in Bad Homburg, and ended up winning at SW19. The 24-year-old has a 44-11 record in 2025, including a 52% success rate on hard court return games.

Speaking of Wimbledon, World No. 19 Clara Tauson happened to be one of Swiatek’s victims at this year’s competition. The 22-year-old has bounced back phenomenally well after a disheartening QF exit in Washington last week – she has beaten Bronzetti and Starodubtseva without dropping a set so far. Tauson began the year with a title charge in Auckland. Reaching the summit clash in Dubai and a semifinal finish in Linz means that the 16th seed enters this match with an uplifting 30-15 win-loss record.
Quick Work by Clara 👏

Swiatek has an unbeaten 2-0 record against Tauson. If the discarded Fed Cup tournament is taken into consideration, the former World No. 1’s record further improves to 3-0. Swiatek and Tauson clashed at the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, wherein the former managed to earn a challenging three set win. In the return fixture at All England Club in 2025, Swiatek managed a rather straightforward victory.

The reigning Wimbledon champion made it very clear that she wants to continue the momentum, and she has done just that. Swiatek is finding her range from the back of the court, and her serves have an extra kick on the high bouncing courts in Montreal. Tauson will hope to engage in some neutral cross-court exchanges, as she has the knack of painting the lines against the run of play. However, we believe the No. 2 seed will power through.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek in three sets.
Swiatek is a strong favourite against underdog Tauson in the Canadian Open Round of 16. According to the implied pre-match probability on the money line, the Polish star has an 87% chance of advancing to the last eight stage.
