Toto Wolff backs up his former driver during an interview with Formula 1. Read ahead to know more.
Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff were an inseparable pair at Mercedes Formula 1 team. During Hamilton’s record breaking stay at the Silver Arrows paddock, Wolff was his prime supporter. “Lewis it’s hammer time!” is a phrase which won’t be forgotten soon. Even though, the pair had to part ways after the 2024 season the bond is still there.
Toto Wolff has a reputation for backing up Lewis Hamilton fiercely. However, he unexpectedly made a supportive gesture towards his former and (obviously his favorite) driver recently. Lewis may not be a part of the Silver Arrows anymore but his former team boss has not stopped believing in him. Hamilton is going through a tough phase in 2025.
Toto Wolff is confident Lewis Hamilton will be "stellar", at Ferrari once he is fully aligned with the car 💨👇#F1https://t.co/6XYusd7MuV

It is arguably his worst start with a new team. When he debuted with McLaren, he almost won the championship. After making the switch to Mercedes, Hamilton instantly gained traction and became a legendary driver of F1. Yet, in his grand stint with Ferrari he is now no more than mediocre driver fighting for points in the middle of the pack.
There is a lot of criticism and speculation surrounding the seven-time champ. But, Toto Wolff is among the list of people who are rooting for him.

To earn seven championships in Formula 1 is no regular feat. There’s a reason why only two drivers have ever achieved this milestone in Formula 1. Hamilton went a step further and won six of them with a single team- Mercedes AMG Formula 1 Team. Toto Wolff, the CEO and team principal of Mercedes Formula 1, has been his caretaker at the Brackley based outfit since 2014.
Naturally, Wolff knows how to treat his champion driver. Even though, Hamilton is not racing for Mercedes anymore his contributions and talents are deeply rooted in their history. First, it was George Russell who claimed that his former teammate still has the race-craft left in him to challenge for wins. This time, it is Toto Wolff who came forward to show his unwavering support towards his champion.

“I think we saw that magic in the Sprint race. He was completely dominating that race. It’s not like you have the magic in one race and then suddenly you lose the magic in the next one. I very much believe that it’s still there. If he aligns all his performance contributors and feels he is in the right space and the car is to his liking, he will be stellar. I have no doubt. But I’m also not surprised it has those road bumps.”
Wolff points out the fact that Hamilton is still adjusting at Ferrari. He is of the opinion that Hamilton has a talented teammate at Ferrari who has a lot of experience with the car. According to Toto, it is natural that Lewis Hamilton will take his time before he’s up to speed with his new car.
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
