George Russell has stepped to lead Mercedes as their number one in 2025. The Silver Arrows have found themselves a dependable lineup this year. The duo Russell and Antonelli have been consistently claiming points for their team. Russell in particular has won three podiums in four races this year. The culmination of his performance has even landed him a new contract opportunity according to the rumors.

However, things are not going well for another driver who was previously at Mercedes. His exit from the Brackley outfit caused a lot of discussion in the F1 paddock. Mercedes gave him a grand farewell as he started a new era of his career.

He joined Ferrari to move on from the persistent issues at Mercedes and the slow pace they have been facing since 2022. Little did he know that he would have a nightmarish start at Ferrari. Two races in and he already faced a disqualification. It took him four races to put his Ferrari in the top-5 this year. He also won a race in Sprint weekend but couldn’t replicate the same performance again.

Yes, we are talking about none other than the seven-time world champion and most successful driver of the 2025 grid, Lewis Hamilton. The entire paddock is shocked about the lack of pace he has displayed in his Rosso Corsa Ferrari. But it seems like his former teammate has an answer for his critics.

George Russell Insists that Lewis Hamilton Will Get Better

George Russell joined Mercedes in 2022. The team was not exactly doing well that year. The new regulations of F1 had turned them into slow cars compared to the dominance they had achieved since 2014. Hamilton was paired as Russell’s teammate. He doted on Russell teaching him as the lead driver of the team. The Russell and Hamilton partnership hardly faced any issues.

George Russell benefitted hugely from Hamilton’s talents. He ended up beating Hamilton more than once during the 2023 and 2024 season. It is clear that the two drivers commanded a lot of respect for each other.

When Russell was asked about Lewis Hamilton ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, he immediately qouted Lewis’s performance in the Sprint weekend-

“We saw it in China, second race of the season, on pole in the Sprint, wins the race comfortably. I know what he’s capable of, and it’s not easy going into a new team and the competition is tough, but he’s an amazing driver and I’m sure, when things start to click, as they did in China, we’ll see more of that magic.”

According to Russell his former teammate, is more than capable of turning around his performance. George Russell’s own performance in 2025 is more than satisfactory. It would be interesting to see the former teammates battle together on the grid, hopefully for a victory or podium finish.
