Manchester United defender Harry Maguire could be set for a surprise switch to the Saudi Pro League as his contract at Old Trafford nears its end. The 32-year-old centre-back joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million. Notably, that transfer fee is still a world record fee for a defender. Maguire is out of contract in June 2026, with no signs of a renewal on the horizon.
Manchester United triggered a 12-month extension in the defender’s deal last summer. However, the club are now believed to be planning for the future and unlikely to offer fresh terms to Harry Maguire. This means the veteran defender will be free to negotiate pre-contract terms with foreign clubs starting January 1. As a result, it has opened the door for a potentially lucrative move abroad.
According to reports in English media, Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq are both interested in bringing the England international to the Middle East. Maguire, who will turn 33 in March, could view the Saudi offer as the final major contract of his career. With his England career fading, the move could provide both financial security and a new challenge for the former Leicester City defender. Notably, Maguire was left out of the latest England squad by Thomas Tuchel.

Maguire has made six Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season, contributing one assist. If he joins Al-Nassr, Maguire would reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo, his former Manchester United teammate. It could be one of the most high-profile defensive signings in the Saudi league this year.

Once a mainstay in Man United’s backline and for Gareth Southgate’s England, Maguire’s time at the top level appears to be winding down. However, a new chapter in Saudi Arabia could soon be on the horizon for the centre-back.
