Drew Lock Steps Up as Starting QB for Giants vs. Cowboys, DeVito Sidelined
Tommy DeVito, who became the starter last week when the Giants benched (and later cut) Daniel Jones, was unable to practice this week because of a forearm injury. Tommy DeVito appeared on the injury report on Tuesday due to a problem with his throwing forearm.
Drew Lock will replace the injured Tommy DeVito as the Giants’ starting quarterback for Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. Tim Boyle will serve as his backup.
The Giants conducted a walk-through practice every day this week. DeVito was actively involved on Monday, despite not being listed on the injury report. He was restricted on Tuesday and notably did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. DeVito then caught a later flight to Dallas on Wednesday for additional forearm evaluation.

The Giants decided to keep Lock as the backup quarterback while resting and protecting Daniel Jones. Following the Giants’ approval of his release, he is currently playing for the Vikings. They faced significant scrutiny, both externally and internally, for choosing DeVito over Lock after benching Jones.
A little more than a week after the intense quarterback competition, he will possibly take the field on Thanksgiving. The Giants, with a 2-9 record, will attempt to break a six-game losing streak in Dallas. Should they suffer another blowout, coach Brian Daboll might face serious consequences.
It is anticipated that Lock will be the starting quarterback for the Giants in their Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday afternoon. DeVito will probably be sidelined due to a right forearm injury, only available as the third quarterback in case of emergency, while Tim Boyle serves as the backup to Lock as the Giants (2-9) aim to end a six-game losing streak.
In his sixth season, Lock was QB2 for the Seahawks for two years under Geno Smith, following his acquisition from the Denver Broncos in the 2022 Russell Wilson trade. He had a record of 1-1 in two games last season when Smith was out with a groin injury, losing to the 49ers and then defeating the Eagles on “Monday Night Football.”

Lock substituted for Smith in the Monday night game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium due to Smith’s injury, but Smith eventually came back. In 31 games over five years, he has completed close to 60% of his passes, throwing for 28 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. In August, he missed three weeks due to oblique and hip injuries as a Giant, which hindered his adjustment period.
