“Not a Bad Place to Start Here”- George Russell Delighted on P4 Finish in Qualifying!

George Russell is going to start in P4 tomorrow during the race.

George Russell is back in form this weekend. A mechanical failure in Monaco saw him get out in Q2. What followed was a painstakingly slow race for Russell behind the Williams. It was arguably his most frustrating race of the season. George cut the chicane hoping to get ahead of the Williams. However, he got a drive through penalty which ruined his chances of claiming points.

After a friendly dinner with Alex Albon, it looks like Russell’s pace is improving in Spain. In the final run of qualifying, George Russell clocked in identical lap times as Max Verstappen. With a 1:11.848 Russell and Verstappen had no pace difference. As per the rules of qualifying, George Russell will be starting his race from 4th on the grid. It’s a big improvement from his last weekend.

Russell has earned himself multiple podium finishes for Mercedes in 2025. George did not get a new contract with the team yet, but he is leading the Silver Arrows very well. Russell has been the ace driver for Silver Arrows helping the young rookie learn the ropes of Formula 1.

George Russell Expresses Satisfaction on His Performance Over Radio

After the qualifying came to end, a second row and third row start was sure for Mercedes. Russell celebrated his performance with his team over the radio.

“Oh…P4 is not a bad place to start here.”

George’e radio might seem normal at first. But, if we remember the previous Spanish GP we will understand his excitement. In 2024, George Russell was starting the race in P4. The start of the race saw chaos between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen on the front row. This gave a quick chance to go round the outside on Turn 1 and claim the lead of the race.

George Russell enjoyed a healthy lead and run at the front. Even though, he ended in his original position later in the race and finished in fourth.

Calculating his chances, the P4 start for today’s race puts him in a favorable position once. Oscar and Lando are showing signs of competition. Russell can easily utilise the in-team battle to get ahead and secure himself a potential podium finish. The pace of the McLarens is much better the his Mercedes. He should not expect a win unless one of the McLarens collide.
