F1 Qualifying Results: Oscar Piastri Claims Pole in McLaren Dogfight, Verstappen Goes Third!

The Spanish GP qualifying was a session worth watching. On one hand, Carlos Sainz was out in Q1 giving fans early disappointment. It was soon overtaken by joy from Fernando Alonso’s second Q3 in 2025. The qualifying session was ultimately unpredictable with some new names coming forward.

Spanish GP is bringing in upgrades from every team. They are showing up quite well on the grid with a diverse top-10 during the qualifying session. The qualifying was becoming better with the Sky F1 commentators finding ways to complement and criticize the drivers on track. Nico Rosberg in particular has been a huge fan of Max Verstappen this weekend. The 2016 F1 champion was praising Verstappen during every session. He was rather disappointed to see Dutchman lose pole in Spain.

McLaren’s speed did not find any obstacle this weekend. Teams were hoping that the front row will get closer with the new regulations. The Papaya cars on the other hand were dominating every session since Friday.

F1 Qualifying Results- Spanish GP Top-10 Qualifiers

The qualifying session has come to an end and here are the top-10 drivers from Saturday’s qualifying in Spain–

George Russell

Charles Leclerc
Pierre Gasly
Isack Hadjar
Fernando Alonso

Oscar Piastri drove his McLaren across the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in a time of 1:11.546 to win pole. Piastri was in an intense battle with his teammate throughout the session. Lando Norris only narrowly missed the pole for tomorrow’s race. Max Verstappen was out of the fight on the final run. However, the Dutchman gave his best to compete with the McLarens.

George Russell is starting race on second row. He’s back on track after a disappointing weekend in Monaco. In a rare instance, Lewis Hamilton is starting ahead of his teammate in fifth. His successor at Mercedes, Kimi Antonelli will start beside him in sixth position. Charles Leclerc ended his run early in Q3 which dropped him to seventh position.

Pierre Gasly and Isack Hadjar took eighth and ninth position in today’s qualifying. They will look forward to a successful weekend tomorrow. Gasly in particular needs to claim crucial points for Alpine, currently ninth in standings. Home hero, Fernando Alonso, also wants to grab his first points of the season. Alonso has been quick this weekend with his Aston Martin.

Spanish GP Qualifying Results- Rest of the Grid

The grid is quite scattered outside the Top-10. Alex Albon is in 11th place. It seems like Williams are facing troubles this weekend with Carlos Sainz starting in 18th place tomorrow. Gabriel Bortoleto claimed 12th to get ahead of his teammate and claim his best start to a race. Liam Lawson, Lance Stroll and Oliver Bearman were the unlucky drivers this weekend in Q2.

Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon were unable to escape Q1 in Spain. Franco Colapinto isn’t proving any better than the driver he replaced at Alpine. Tsunoda’s luck ran out early on in the qualifying. He wanted his team check the floor of his car and finished dead last.
