Gaethje vs. Fiziev 2 an Instant Classic Again As ‘The Highlight’ and ‘Aatman’ Deliver Absolute Slugfest

Eric Divakaran

For the Co-main fight at UFC 313, we saw Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev deliver a great performance as the two exchanged blows after blows. This was obviously a fan favorite fight as the back-and-forth between the two was something to watch.

Coming into the fight, many favored Fiziev to win and Gaethje was the underdog. However, as we predicted in our previous article, Gaethje was the number three ranked fighter and has been constantly in the octagon. Whereas for Fiziev, he had not fought since September of 2023, which is 1 year and 5 months to be precise!

Justin Gaethje wins the fight via unanimous decision

The Gaethje vs Fiziev fight was probably the most entertaining fight of the evening for a good reason. Round one of the fight absolutely belonged to Fiziev as he beat the brakes off of Gaethje. In the second round, the fight slowed down a little and both the fighters took a more measured approach, however, Gaethje dropped Fiziev with a upper cut but he refused to quit. By the end of two rounds, the fight was 1-1.

In the final round, Gaethje came out strong but Fiziev looked tired. Justin used Fiziev’s fatigue to his advantage and edged out a win over his divisional rival. For many who were worried about Gaethje’s chin after he was knocked out by Holloway earlier, he is officially back!

Rafael Fiziev hasn’t won a fight in a long time

The fight between him and Gaethje was extremely close both the times these two squared off, but a loss is still a loss no matter how close you come to victory. Unfortunately for Fiziev, he’s lost both his fights against Gaethje and has, in fact, not won a fight since July of 2022. This was his third-straight loss and something definitely has to change for him.

Both the fighters deserved a whole lot of credit as Gaethje revealed that he might have broken his hand and Fiziev took the fight on 12-day notice.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
