Fernando Alonso has been a part of Formula 1 racing forever. His career and the extent of it is a running joke in Formula 1 community. Nando has been racing on the F1 grid since 2001. In fact, when El Padre was racing in Formula 1, the 2025 F1 rookies were not even born. Fernando Alonso is not someone to be taken for granted, however. He is a two-time F1 champion.

Nando beat prime Michael Schumacher in his less than superior Renault. He also gave a tough fight to Sebastian Vettel for four years in his mediocre Ferrari. Alonso’s career has been marked with fame, struggle and controversies. He left Formula 1 after a disappointing stint at McLaren to race in other series. In this period, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and came close to winning the Indy 500. Fernando Alonso was arguably the best contestant for the F1 triple crown in a century.

El Padre is racing for Aston Martin F1 Racing in 2025. He made a star-studded debut in his Aston Martin stint in 2023. Alonso went on to grab multiple podiums in 2023 while he absolutely decimated his teammate. But, will the Spaniard stay in Formula 1 in search of another championship?

Fernando Alonso Does Not Want to “Compromise” Aston Martin

It is safe to say that Alonso is Aston Martin’s safest and most successful bet. The arrival of Adrian Newey can easily create wonders for the team if paired with a driver of his caliber. But, the 2025 season isn’t exactly good for Aston Martin. They have been among the worst cars on the grid. Alonso, who was initially excited to join the premise of a new team, is now in doubts about his motivation.

Like Sebastian Vettel, Aston Martin F1 would leave no stone unturned in order to keep a competitive driver in their roster. Especially considering the fact that their driver is Lance Stroll. However, the team’s poor performance took a toll on Vettel and he left Formula 1 altogether. Alonso is in the same precarious situation.

Speaking about his future at Aston Martin, Alonso talked about how he would not hesitate to leave if the need arises-

“We can sit and talk honestly between all of us and check what is best for the team. I will always be in a position to help the team with whatever they need. If it’s behind the wheel, I will extend the contract if they think that way and I feel motivated. If it’s in another position, or I don’t feel fast enough, I will be the first one to raise my hand.”

He has made it clear that he won’t try to race in Formula 1 at the age of 50. As disappointing as it may sound, it is also not feasible for Aston Martin to keep him in the team that long. They have the likes of Felipe Drugovich and Stoffel Vandoorne in their lineup. They would not try to risk losing their potential drivers to help Alonso secure another title.
