Mexico Grand Prix is known for its festive atmosphere and exciting fan following. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has given trouble to team strategists time and again due to its high-altitude conditions. Mexico Grand Prix forces teams to run a high-downforce setup in order to combat the effects of altitude. The addition of Mexican traditions throughout the race weekend only makes it better.

The Mexican Grand Prix was much more exciting and eagerly awaited in the previous years. The reason was simple- they had a home hero to support every year. Sergio Perez’s arrival to Formula 1 brought a cult following from Mexico. The Mexican Grand Prix used to be full of Checo’s fans and supporters.

The power of Mexican fan following was such that, Red Bull Racing lost a significant number of followers when Checo Perez was kicked out of the team. Recently however, Perez has been talking about a potential return to Formula 1. The only signs point to one team- Cadillac F1.

Mexico Grand Prix Gets a Contract Extension from Formula 1

Formula 1 made a huge announcement ahead of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. FIA has announced that they will be extending the Mexico City Grand Prix on the F1 calendar. The new contract extension allows Mexico to host races until the 2028 season. FIA has recently been evaluating their options on race-tracks. There were talks about removing Imola from the calendar. The Monaco Grand Prix is equally under fire. The Principality of Monte Carlo has been targeted for its lack of racing action and boring race weekends.

So, F1’s decision to suddenly renew Mexico’s contract has puzzled fans. It is clear that in the absence of their home hero, Mexican fans won’t be as eager to attend the Mexico GP.

But, the recent developments on the F1 grid might be the answer to our questions. A key figure for the renewal of Mexico Grand Prix is Sergio Perez. F1 makes decisions based on commercial success on a racetrack. Sergio Perez is visiting Miami this weekend. The reason being Sergio Perez’s potential return to Formula 1. Cadillac F1 and Sergio Perez seem to have reached an agreement. And if Checo joins the grid from 2026, there is no reason for Mexican fans to panic.

Formula 1’s decision is also a hint for what’s about to come. This might be the weekend when Cadillac announces their driver lineup.
