Will Sergio Perez rejoin Formula 1 in 2026 after a new announcement this weekend?

Cadillac F1 and Sergio Perez are a pair that sound good together. Perez has the necessary qualifications and race winning experience for a developing team like Cadillac. He is also from Mexico and has a huge fans base which will benefit Cadillac on a much better level than other drivers. Sergio Checo Perez has been getting popular in the paddock recently.

Perez sat out the 2025 season after he lost his seat at Red Bull. But, he confirmed that he was in talks with other teams and looking forward to a potential return. Sergio Perez was also among the primary options considered by Cadillac as mentioned by their Board member, Mario Andretti.

Cadillac F1 comes to Formula 1 racing after a lot of controversy and difficult decisions. GM and Cadillac have ambitious plans ahead of their entry in Formula 1. Slowly but surely, the entire picture is coming into play for GM and their Formula 1 dreams. First, they secured a place for an 11th team on the F1 grid. Recently, GM also got FIA’s approval to join as a power unit manufacturer in 2029.

Now that the pieces are finally set to play, GM and Cadillac F1 only need to sign drivers in order to start their 2026 Formula 1 campaign.

Sergio Perez Set to Make Appearance at Miami

Cadillac Formula 1 is going to do the livery reveal for their 2026 challenger this weekend at the Miami Grand Prix. But, the biggest spotlight goes to Sergio Perez. He will be visiting Miami this weekend as well. It seems to good to be a conincidence as all hints point towards a potential driver announcement. Cadillac F1 and Sergio Perez are reportedly very close to a deal.

Ever since, Cadillac F1 got the confirmation to join the grid, Perez was the leading candidate for their seat. Logan Sargeant, Colton Herta were among the other drivers who were tipped as potential candidates.

Perez had a stronger chance than any drivers. Mainly, because he the sponsors and the achievements that Cadillac F1 would be looking for as a first time contender. Also, Sergio Perez is notably from one of the top teams of the grid which gives the credibility necessary to lead a new team. The other major reason is the fact that nearly every one of the ten F1 teams has more or less secured their driver lineup. Unless and until, there is a huge change, the 2026 driver lineup shall remain mostly same for all ten teams on the grid.
