Dricus Du Plessis, the reigning middleweight champion of the UFC, has cemented himself as the best fighter in the middleweight division. He’s beaten Sean Strickland twice so far, and handed out Israel Adesanya is first career submission loss. He currently has a 23-2-0 in his MMA career and is the first South African to become a UFC champion. He has 3 UFC title defenses so far, and has remained dominant in his division. So what’s next for the middleweight champion?
Du Plessis had a lot of options. At first it looked like he will take on Alex Pereira next, however, after Poatan’s loss against Magomed Ankalaev, Du Plessis revealed that he doesn’t have any interest in taking on a defeated fighter. If you’ve been following the middleweight division, we all know that Khamzat Chimaev is next in line for the title fight. Chimaev has been waiting for quite some time for a title shot, and is hungry to become a champion. He is currently 14-0-0 in his MMA career, and beaten the likes of Robert Whittaker, Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, Kevin Holland, and many more.

Many fans and analysts expected Du Plessis and Chimaev to square off for the middleweight championship at UFC 317. However, according to the latest reports, this fight might not happen anytime soon as Du Plessis is reportedly injured, and will not be able to take on the contender in Chimaev, to headline the UFC 317 at T-Mobile Arena.
This is an extremely disappointing news, especially for Chimaev, who has been quite desperate and even voiced out his opinion multiple times of how he should get a title shot.
Chimaev wasted no time in sharing his reaction to the rumor of middlweight champion, Du Plessis, being injured. The Borz shared a tweet on X which said “This guy biggest Bullsh*t.”
It is not known if the injury rumor is true or not currently. However what we do know is, if Chimaev could fight Du Plessis, he would have done it as soon as possible as he has been waiting for a chance at the title since July of 2020.
