On Sunday, 04/27, the Detroit Pistons (1-2) will host the New York Knicks (2-1) for Game 4 in the Playoffs’ First Round. The Knicks eked out a fantastic 2-point win (118-116) in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead. Can the Pistons fight back like they did in Game 2? Or will the Knicks build a big separation? Read through the preview, total predictions, and player props here.
The series has lots of twists and turns
Game 3 was the perfect demonstration of what many experts expected from this series. The Pistons had built an 8-point lead in the first two games, but this time it was New York’s turn. The Knicks jumped to a 13-point first-half lead, and Detroit could only cut it to 10 by the end of the third quarter.
The Knicks maintained an 11-point advantage till the middle of the final quarter. But then Dennis Schroeder and Cade Cunningham hit a couple of threes to cut it to five. Then, a Tobias Harris jumper cut it to three. However, Jalen Brunson took over the game and helped the team maintain a seven-point lead.
Then Jalen Duren and Cade Cunningham cut it to three again. Brunson made back-to-back clutch shots with around a minute to play. But Malik Beasley’s three cut it to four. Tim Hardaway Jr. and Tobias made clutch three-pointers, but it was too late as the Knicks cut the time to 0.1 with a two-point lead.
Karl-Anthony Towns did a lot of damage with 31 points. Meanwhile, Brunson had 30. OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges compiled 42 points. Josh Hart had an all-around impact with 11 rebounds and 9 assists. The Knicks played a clean game with just 7 turnovers.
On the other hand, Cunningham alone committed six turnovers and scored 24 points. Tim Hardaway Jr. also scored 24, whereas Dennis Schroder had another brilliant game with 18 points. Tim Hardaway Jr. had 12, and the Pistons’ bench heavily outplayed the Knicks’ bench(40-9 points). But the team defense could have been better as the Knicks bared their fangs.

This series has been high-scoring compared to the rest of the series in both conferences. Game 1 and Game 3 produced around 234-235 points, around 10+ points more than the bookmakers expected.
The reason is simple. Both teams have multiple role players showing up to the party. However, I see a much more defensive battle in Game 4 akin to Game 2. The total can be below 214 here. Here are the NBA betting picks for the total.
Jalen Brunson to score over 30.5 points: Jalen Brunson becomes a whole different player in the playoffs, and he has touched the 30-point mark in each game thus far. I expect it to be the case here too.
Karl-Anthony Towns to put up over 22.5 points: Karl-Anthony Towns bounced back from a 10-point performance in Game 2 with a 31-point outburst in Game 3. He has averaged 21.3 PPG in the three games thus far, but I see him going above the mark.
Tim Hardaway Jr. to be held below 12.5 points: THJ had a strong 24-point performance in Game 3. He recovered brilliantly from a 0-point debacle in Game 2. He had 19 in Game 1, but I see him scoring below 11 here.
Main pick: Karl-Anthony Towns O 22.5 Points for -110 at BetMGM
The moneyline favors the Pistons, but the momentum favors the Knicks. But the bookmakers are spot-on about Detroit’s fighting nature that has kept them afloat in the series. However, I think New York is finally gaining the offensive momentum and will also upgrade their defense during Game 4. I see them winning another close one, by around 1-3 points.
Safe Spread Pick: Money Line: Knicks for +110 at BetMGM

nba Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
