Dani Olmo Injury Update: How Long Will Barcelona Be Without Their Star Midfielder?

Abhinav Goel

Barcelona secured a vital 3–1 victory over Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou on Tuesday night. However, the celebrations were muted by another worrying injury blow. Dani Olmo, who had just put Barca 2–1 ahead with a brilliant finish, was forced off after landing heavily on his shoulder moments after scoring.

Olmo struck in the 65th minute after cutting inside and curling a superb shot beyond the keeper, only to fall awkwardly on his left side while celebrating. He immediately clutched his shoulder and was substituted, grimacing as he left the pitch. According to reports from Barcelona’s medical team and journalist Fabrizio Romano, scans later confirmed a dislocated shoulder.

How Long Will Barcelona Be Without Dani Olmo?

Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo is expected to miss at least three weeks of action. The dislocated shoulder effectively rules him out for the remainder of 2025. The injury is particularly concerning because it is on the same shoulder he previously had operated on during his time at RB Leipzig.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick also provided an update on midfielder Pedri, who was taken off earlier in the match. However, Pedri is believed to have suffered only fatigue rather than a significant injury. “Pedri is fine, he’s just a little tired. As for Dani Olmo, he has a shoulder injury, so we have to see,“ Flick said.

On the pitch, Barcelona produced a strong response after falling behind early. Atletico opened the scoring through Álex Baena in the 19th minute, but Raphinha equalised in the 26th. Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty shortly before the break. However, Dani Olmo’s goal in 65th minute turned the momentum fully in Barca’s favour. Ferran Torres wrapped up the win deep into stoppage time to keep Flick’s side in control at the top of La Liga.

However, the injury to Dani Olmo casts a shadow over what had been one of Olmo’s best stretches since returning to Barcelona. He had been growing into a creative central role, linking midfield and attack superbly. With crucial fixtures against Real Betis at the weekend and Eintracht Frankfurt next week in the Champions League, Barca will now look to reshuffle their midfield options. Fermin Lopez is already sidelined, though Frenkie de Jong is expected to return after missing the Atletico match due to a fever.
