The NFC North is heating up with three teams in contention yet again!
The Detroit Lions looked like the same well-oiled machine that it has been over the past couple of seasons during their Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders. The defense held a battered Commanders’ offense to 22 points, while the offense dropped a massive 44 points, and at the heart of that performance was the Lions’ head coach, Dan Campbell.
Making a surprise change to their current system, head coach Dan Campbell was seen with the playsheet in his hands on the sidelines of the Lions vs Commanders game on Sunday. When asked about it afterwards, Campbell confirmed that he called the plays on offense in the game.
This was the first time Campbell took on the playcalling duties since his first year in the Motor City, back in 2021. In the seasons past, offensive playcalling duties lay with the team’s former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, but he left for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching role.

This season, the Lions hired John Morton for the role, and he assumed the playcalling role up until yesterday’s game. But, before the media could dig deep into why the sudden change was made, Campbell took the opportunity to address it during the postgame media session, wherein he stated that it was just to try something different and nothing more than that.
He also acknowledged the entire coaching staff for a job well done and explicitly made it clear that he took input from Morton and the other coaches before calling the plays.

Whether or not Campbell will continue to call plays as the season progresses, only time will tell. But the fact of the matter is that Detroit’s offense was all over the Washington defense with huge contributions from Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jameson Williams.
Goff put up 320 passing yards, including 3 touchdowns, while going 25 of 33 in the air. Gibbs had a monstrous day himself, rushing for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns from 15 carries, while also contributing 30 yards and a touchdown on 3 receptions.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams had 119 receiving yards and a touchdown, while running back David Montgomery, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Kalif Raymond also chipped in with useful contributions.
The battle for supremacy in the NFC North is heating up with three teams in contention to take the top spot yet again. At the moment, the Packers are atop the division with a 5-2-1 record, while the Lions and Bears are next, both with a 6-3 record.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
