Years later, Gauff acknowledgd the foundation, paid tribute to her parents after her 2023 US Open win.
“Thank you guys. You believed in me from the beginning,My dad took me to this tournament, sitting right there, watching Venus [Williams] and Serena [Williams] compete, so it’s really incredible to win on this stage,” she said in her post-victory speech.
Coco Gauff’s beautiful words for her dad after winning US Open:
“He was the first person I saw. That was the first time I saw my dad cry. At the French Open, he claims he wasn’t crying. But today, I saw it.. I rarely see my mom cry either.. That moment. I’ll never forget that… pic.twitter.com/ocSPo5PVpj

Coco Gauff’s father- The Man Behind it All!
Gauff’s father, Corey Gauff, was a basketball player at Georgia State University and the one who instilled the passion for tennis inside her brilliant daughter. When a young Coco was thrilled by Serena Williams’ epic 2010 AO win on television, it was her father who introduced her to the GOAT. He also developed creative ideas to nurture Coco’s love for tennis.
“My favorite was like when it rained, my dad was like set the couches up in a row as like a net and we were just like hit back and forth and play in the base pit,”she reflected.
Corey Gauff quit his job to become his daughter’s full-time coach. Despite having no prior experience in the sport, he learned it to train Coco. From those early years to now, Coco Gauff finds her ultimate support in her father. When she exited the 2025 Stuttgart Open after a devastating loss to Jasmine Paolini by 4-6 and 3-6, her father cheered her up with a bouquet and a note- “Happy Easter, Your work will pay off. God got you, and so do I. Love, Dad.”
Such support helped in Gauff’s indomitable mental fortitude. In a press conference after the 2023 US Open quarterfinals, the WTA No. 2 said, “They’re just really my support system. They’re helping me remember, you know, my clothes and everything, and my dad is still sending me scouting reports for every match. But my mom is more so, you know, just being mom. My dad just being dad, other than the scouting report part.“
Coco Gauff’s Mother
Gauff’s mother, Candi Gauff, was a gymnast-turned heptathlete. She played on Florida State University’s track and field team. During her high school days, she was a five-time state champion in Florida and named the South Florida Sun Sentinel Athlete of the Year twice.
Candi Gauff is a familiar face on the stands while Coco fights on the court. Reflecting on her mother’s support, the former US Open champion once said, “It’s great to have my mom. She’s my biggest fan, for sure. Having one or both of my parents, I think, always makes the tournament easier.” While Coco chases the 2025 French Open glory, her mother remains her constant travel partner and supporter in the City of Love.
