The Kansas City Chiefs have signed kicker Spencer Shrader off the Jets practice squad to replace injured Harrison Butker. Butker, the 3-time Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, has been a vital part of Kansas City’s special teams unit. Shrader, the Notre Dame alum and new kicker for the Chiefs, will make his debut for the team in the NFL Sunday game against the Buffalo Bills.
Harrison Butker had a successful surgery on his left knee that will keep him out for at least the next 4 weeks. The Chiefs put Butker on injury reserve but he is expected to join the team back for home stretch and the playoffs phase.
Surgery went great!

Thank you for the prayers 🙏🏼
Butker joined the Chiefs in 2017 after he was signed off the Panthers’ practice squad. Deemed as one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, he has multiple NFL records to his name. He holds the record for most field goals made by a rookie (38), longest field goal in the Super Bowl (57 yards) and most career field goals in the Super Bowl (9).

When asked about what he likes about the new guy (Spencer Shrader), Chiefs head coach replied:
“He’s got a very strong leg. He is just a young guy in this situation. The kid’s traveled the world a little bit playing soccer, has a strong leg and kicked at Notre Dame last year. It’s not the first big crowd he’ll be in front of, so he’ll be alright.”
Coach Andy Reid told the media that they have confidence in the new kid coming in, while hoping for a quick recovery of Harrison Butker.
New kicker for the Chiefs, Spencer Shrader will have a task at hand. Shrader’s new gig with Kansas City will last for 4 games till the return of Butker. The Jets did offer Shrader a place in the squad but he opted to go for the undefeated Chiefs. He could have had a longer run at the Jets but nonetheless, Shrader will face his first challenge against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the late afternoon Sunday game.
