Chelsea are reportedly preparing a blockbuster move for Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons, with a potential deal set to break the transfer record for a player from the Netherlands. The 22-year-old has emerged as a key target for the Blues following his impressive spell at RB Leipzig, and a fee in the region of £95 million (€110 million) is being discussed.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are one of the front-runners for Simons’ signature, though they face competition from Arsenal, who see him as an alternative to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. Despite Simons only recently completing a permanent move to Leipzig from PSG, the Bundesliga side may be open to a sale after missing out on Champions League football.
RB Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer previously described Simons’ permanent transfer as “a great one both in a sporting and financial sense,” indicating the club’s strong position in any negotiation. Simons, ranked No.8 in FourFourTwo‘s list of best attacking midfielders globally, contributed significantly to Leipzig last season and is regarded as one of Europe’s top young talents.
However, Leipzig are reportedly still open to letting go of one of their prized assets, especially after a potential £80m move for Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal fell through earlier this summer.
While Chelsea have already added Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens to their squad following their Club World Cup triumph, further incomings depend on outgoings. The London club are understood to be willing to part ways with Enzo Fernandez to finance the Simons deal.

Given the €70 million valuation listed on Transfermarkt, Leipzig’s asking price of €110 million is steep, but Chelsea’s interest remains firm. Whether they can meet that fee without a marquee sale remains to be seen – but if the stars align, Simons could soon be lighting up Stamford Bridge as the Premier League’s next big midfield star.
