Colorado's star defenseman Cale Makar leaves game due to injury, briefly returns in final period.
The beginning of the 2024-25 season has been difficult for the Colorado Avalanche. During this season, Jared Bednar and the Colorado Avalanche have struggled with injuries, suspensions, and subpar goaltending. They managed to secure an impressive 6-3 victory against the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night, ending a three-game losing streak and improving their season record to 6-7-0.
Colorado’s top defenseman, Cale Makar, exited the Avalanche’s 6-3 win against Seattle due to an unspecified injury in the middle of the second period and briefly came back for under half a minute in the last period on Tuesday night.
Coach Jared Bednar did not provide a detailed explanation of Makar’s injury during his postgame press conference.
“He tweaked something late in the second. He wasn’t able to continue.“ Bednar stated that he couldn’t proceed.
Makar, a previous recipient of the Norris Trophy, had two assists before he exited the game. His current streak of scoring in the first 13 games of the season matches his previous longest streak from Feb. 13-22, 2022.
As night fell, Makar was in a tie for first place in the league with 21 points.
The Colorado Avalanche experienced another important injury setback recently, contributing to their increasing number of absences, which already features Artturi Lehkonen and Miles Wood, both sidelined on Injured Reserve.
The Avalanche revealed that Ross Colton will be out of action for a period of six to eight weeks due to a broken foot; he will be put on Injured Reserve.
The injury happened earlier this week in Colorado’s 5-2 defeat to the Chicago Blackhawks at Ball Arena. He blocked a shot in the second period and did not come back.
The disappointment is especially aggravating for Avalanche supporters, as Colton is the leading scorer of the team with eight goals in 10 games, partnered with star forwards Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon on the top line.
