Caitlin Clark Tops WNBA All-Star Voting, Napheesa Collier Behind, Paige Bueckers Makes Surprising Jump

Caitlin Clark has ignited the WNBA All-Star voting, but top names like Collier and Bueckers are still in the hunt

The Caitlin Clark effect is in full swing after the first voting results have returned for next month’s WNBA All-Star game. The star-studded mini-games will be played at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19.

Caitlin Clark leads the pack with 515,993 votes, and if this trend holds, she’s set to captain one of the WNBA All-Star teams. The first two players who got the most votes will lead an all-star side. This with a pool of eight players each and 12 players for reserves.

With fan voting still in the early stages, Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier currently top the leaderboard. Fans get 50 percent votes, while the other 50 is equally divided among a media panel and the WNBA players themselves.

The Indiana Fever guard has maintained her form throughout this season, averaging 19.9 points, 8.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds, despite missing five games with a leg injury. Napheesa Collier who was the Defensive Player of the Year last season has also maintained her performances averaging 24.4 points.

The Minnesota Lynx leader garnered 484,758 votes so far from the WNBA fans. Incidentally, both Minnesota Lynx and Indiana Fever are also the sides to play against each other at the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Bueckers Rises, Boston Stays in Hunt

Aliyah Boston is hot on Collier’s heels in the fan voting with 446,961 votes, narrowing the gap to just 38,000. A surprising entrant is Paige Bueckers who has received 312,920 votes.

Top 10 after first fan voting update

Caitlin Clark, Guard (IND) 515,993
Napheesa Collier, Frontcourt (MIN) 484,758
Aliyah Boston, Frontcourt (IND) 446,961

Sabrina Ionescu, Guard (NYL) 234,684
Lexie Hull, Guard (IND), 217,438
Kiki Iriafen, Frontcourt (WAS) 213,500

The Dallas Wings rookie has quickly built momentum both through her game and her growing off-court profile. Her rising popularity continues to gain traction with fans and analysts alike. Though she is unlikely to break through in the top two positions, she is certainly going to be a key piece in the WNBA All-star Games.

Furthermore, I got into the sports media while looking for an entry into the media industry. I love International Relations, and since entry without majoring in the subject was difficult, I got into sports. Now, while majoring in International Relations on one side, I also like covering sports as part of the journey as a young Journalist.
