Sun vs. Wings: Dallas Wings Survive a Scare on Paige Bueckers’ Return to Connecticut

With two straight wins, Dallas now improved to 3-11 in the West.

Dallas Wings is finding the rhythm in the WNBA 2025 as they secured a narrow 86-83 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night. The Wings won consecutive games for the first time this season, thanks to another top-class performance from Paige Bueckers, who made a return to Connecticut. The former UConn star played college basketball here and made it to the WNBA as the No. 1 pick.

Paige Bueckers scored 21 points and seven assists and fellow rookie Aziaha James dropped her season-high 17 points in the second half. NaLyssa Smith chipped in 12 points and Li Yueru had 11 points and nine rebounds, both season highs. Tina Charles led the Sun with a game-high 26 points. Jacy Sheldon and Aneesah Morrow added 10 points each.

Dallas Wings Win Back-to-Back Games for the First Time in 2025 WNBA Season

Dallas had a worst start of their franchise story and they finished last in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup 2025. The Wings arrived Connecticut after a 80-71 victory against Valkyries which ended their seven-game losing streak. Dallas outscored Connecticut 21-15 in the opening quarter to set the momentum. The Sun responded in the second quarter and reduced the deficit to two points at halftime.

The second half was a roller-coaster ride for both teams and Aziaha James led the Wings with her season-high performance. The Wings went on a 12-0 run to start the third quarter. However, the Sun replied back with a 13-2 surge to make it a one-point game heading to the final quarter.

Both teams were competing each other and the deficit was reduced to three when Morrow made a driving layup with three minutes to play. Arike Ogunbowale made a timely 3-pointer and added two free throws to put Dallas ahead in the game. DiJonai Carrington made a layup with 45.8 seconds left that gave the Wings a 83-86 lead.

The Wings were impressive in free-throw line and went 21-for-26. Both teams struggled in the shooting but Dallas had the last laugh. It was the first time this season when Dallas Wings won consecutive matches. Before this game, the Wings lost their previous three road games. Dallas now improved to 3-11 and the Sun fell to 2-11 with five straight defeats.
