Von Miller released but could still be back in Buffalo before the start of the 2025 season
Right before the start of free agency, the Buffalo Bills have made a major move as they released 2-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller. However, as per reports, both Miller and the Bills have kept the option for him to return open.
Miller signed a 6-year deal in 2022 with the Bills worth $120 million. As per NFL Insiders Tom Pelissero and Adam Schefter, the defender was due $17.5 million this upcoming season, while releasing him saves $8.4 million against the cap.

The celebrated linebacker has spent the past three seasons in Buffalo but it is safe to say that his best days are behind him. Miller will be turning 36 later this month and it is evident he has lost some spring in his step. After suffering a torn ACL in 2022 in a Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions, Miller’s production has taken a significant hit. As a matter of fact, he did not start any games in 2023 and 2024 and has racked up only 6 sacks during that time.
Miller has still led two teams to a Super Bowl title and his resume is enough for teams to consider adding him to their roster even if he is a rotational player going forward. He will not only bring intensity to the team but his veteran presence will be a big boost in the locker room. With that, let us take a look at potential landing spots for the 8-time Pro Bowler.

The reason the Bills released Miller was to clear up some cap space, however, as stated earlier, it doesn’t rule out a return to Buffalo. Miller could still be useful to the Bills defense and they still need a threat from the edge. Moreover, as far as the linebacker is concerned, he would want to keep playing for teams with a chance to win a ring considering he has limited time left in the game. The Bills have been knocking on the door of a Super Bowl appearance these past few years, and with reigning MVP Josh Allen under center, they will still have that chance.
A return to the Rams could be an exciting spot for Miller. He would get a chance to play for the team once again, having already helped them win a Super Bowl in the only season he played for the franchise. Additionally, the Rams are still potential contenders to make a run for the Super Bowl. Los Angeles has a young defensive line which could use someone like Miller as a leader of the group.
Baltimore is yet another destination worth considering for the former Broncos’ star. The Ravens are another strong contender from the AFC and like the Bills, seem like they could go all the way anytime soon. Last season, Lamar Jackson nearly won his third MVP, while Derrick Henry also had a great year. Baltimore has a strong defense and Miller could fit right in.
Houston has been doing quite well these past couple of years. Quarterback CJ Stroud, still on his rookie deal, is the real deal when he has his receivers healthy. The offense looks good when it’s clicking and the defense is led by Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., which is a scary combo. Add Miller to the mix, and the Texans could cause havoc next year.
Detroit as a landing spot for Miller is worth exploring. The Lions have been playing terrific football of late and have missed out on two Super Bowl appearances in as many years despite being so close. The injury to Aidan Hutchinson in 2024 was a huge blow, but a player of Miller’s caliber would provide more firepower when the two are on the field at the same time.
