Bournemouth Land Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic on Long-Term Deal

Ritam Dey

AFC Bournemouth have strengthened their goalkeeping department by signing Serbian international Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea. The 25-year-old joins the Cherries on a five-year contract that runs until June 2030, with the reported transfer fee around £25 million.

Petrovic arrived at Chelsea in 2023 from MLS side New England Revolution and made 31 senior appearances during his time at Stamford Bridge. Though he showed flashes of promise, consistent minutes were hard to come by, prompting a loan spell at Strasbourg last season in France’s Ligue 1, where he impressed with his shot-stopping and command of the box.

Cherries Secure Kepa Successor

Petrovic’s arrival is timely for Bournemouth, who had Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea last season. With Kepa now completing a permanent switch to Arsenal, the Cherries needed to secure a first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign under Andoni Iraola.

Adding to that, Bournemouth also saw back-up keeper Mark Travers depart for Everton earlier this week, making Petrovic’s signing a crucial move to fill the goalkeeping void at the Vitality Stadium.

Petrovic Aims for Premier League Impact

Still only 25, Petrovic offers both top-flight experience and room for growth. Known for his reflexes, distribution, and penalty-saving ability, he will now compete to be the undisputed No.1 at Bournemouth. His long-term contract shows the club’s faith in his potential and commitment to building a solid spine ahead of the 2025–26 Premier League season.

As Bournemouth continue their summer rebuild, the addition of Petrovic brings stability between the posts—while offering the Serbian a chance to make his mark in the Premier League once again.
