Manchester City Sign Wonderkid Sverre Nypan From Rosenborg

Nypan has represented Norway up to under-21 level and is considered one of the brightest talents to emerge from the nation.

Manchester City have officially completed the signing of highly-rated Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg. The 18-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium in a deal worth £12.5m. City have been busy in the summer transfer window and Nypan becomes Guardiola’s fifth summer signing after Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli.

The Norwegian teenager was previously on Arsenal’s radar in January, but City moved decisively to secure his signature. With 70 senior appearances for Rosenborg already under his belt, Nypan arrives in Manchester with a solid reputation as one of Scandinavia’s brightest young talents.

Who is Sverre Nypan?

Born in Trondheim, Norway on 19 December 2006, Sverre Nypan has made a significant impact in his home country since making his first-team debut at just 15 years old. Over two seasons in the Eliteserien, he has racked up 14 goals and 11 assists in 70 appearances, earning back-to-back Eliteserien Young Player of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024.

Nypan has represented Norway up to under-21 level and is considered one of the brightest talents to emerge from the nation since Martin Ødegaard. Notably, Ødegaard also made his debut in Norway’s top flight at a similar age. Like Ødegaard, Nypan is a versatile midfielder, primarily operating in central areas but is comfortable playing as an attacking midfielder, winger, or even as a centre-forward. Nypan is comfortable on the ball with both feet and is renowned for his technical ability and dribbling skills.

City view Nypan as a long-term prospect. It’s expected that he will spend the 2025-26 season on loan. Although if no deal is arranged by the start of pre-season on July 28, he will start training with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

After signing with Manchester City, Nypan said,
