Diogo Jota Inducted Into Wolverhampton Wanderers Hall of Fame

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced plans to commemorate Jota at their final pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo on August 9th.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have posthumously inducted their former forward Diogo Jota into their prestigious Hall of Fame. The Premier League club’s gesture honours Jota’s remarkable contributions on the pitch and the deep impact his untimely passing has had on the footballing community.

The Portuguese international and his younger brother, Andre Silva, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on July 3rd in the Spanish province of Zamora. Jota was just 27 while Silva, also a professional footballer, was 25. Jota first joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in July 2017, initially on loan before making the move permanent.

He became a key figure in the club’s rise to the Premier League, scoring 44 goals in 131 appearances. His standout contribution came in the 2017-18 Championship-winning campaign as he helped Wolves earn promotion back to the top flight. Following his successful spell at Molineux, Jota moved to Liverpool in 2020, where he further enhanced his reputation as a top-class forward.

Diogo Jota’s induction into the Wolverhampton Hall of Fame will ensure that his name will forever be etched into Wolves’ history, not just for his achievements on the pitch, but for the profound connection he shared with the club and its supporters. Wolves Hall of Fame chairman and club vice-president John Richards said,

“There is such a feeling of sadness and disbelief around this awful tragedy that we wanted to make this tribute of our own as soon as we could. We remember what a wonderful player Diogo was for Wolves during that unforgettable promotion season under [manager] Nuno [Espirito Santo] and our early years back in the Premier League.”

“We hope it will bring a little comfort to those who were close to Diogo and Andre, and we trust Wolves supporters will understand that this gesture is made with real love and admiration, and also fully justified.”

Emotional Tributes for Jota at Molineux

Wolves players, staff, and supporters have united in grief and remembrance. Last week, manager Vitor Pereira and the Wolves squad laid flowers and observed a moment of silence at a growing tribute site outside Molineux’s Billy Wright statue. Fans have adorned the area with flowers, shirts, and personal memorabilia to honour Jota’s legacy.

The club has also announced plans to further commemorate both Jota and his brother Andre at their final pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo on August 9th. Wolves have also scheduled a more formal tribute for their Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 16th.
