Ben Shelton vs. Frances Tiafoe Head-to-Head Record, Prediction and Betting Odds for ATP Citi DC Open 2025 Quarterfinal

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Friends turns foes at the American capital!

Maryland-native Frances Tiafoe will lock horns with fellow American Ben Shelton in the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open quarterfinals on Friday. The 27-year-old announced yesterday that “there’s no friends” ahead of his encounter with Shelton. Meanwhile, the southpaw has reached back-to-back quarterfinals, having lost to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon. We look to preview this clash and also dish out some predictions with the help of BetMGM.

Currently ranked No. 11 in the world, Frances Tiafoe is through to his fourth consecutive quarterfinal at the American capital. After overcoming compatriot Kovacevic in his opener, Tiafoe beat returning finalist Cobolli in the Round of 16. The two-time former US Open semifinalist is on a 20-15 run this year, and is searching for his first championship run. This happens to be the first occasion of the American winning consecutive hard court matches since the 2024 US Open.

Up against ‘Big Foe’, will be 22-year-old young gun Ben Shelton. A former semifinalist at Flushing Meadows himself, Shelton achieved his current and career-high ranking of World No. 8 in July 2025. He began the season with a semifinal outing at the Australian Open, followed by a final in Munich and semifinal in Stuttgart. The left-handed powerhouse has comfortably beaten McDonald and Diallo en route to this match-up.

Ben Shelton vs Frances Tiafoe Head to Head Record

Ben Shelton leads the head-to-head against Frances Tiafoe by 2-1. However, the latter won their most recent duel at the 2024 US Open.

Shelton and Tiafoe have squared off only on American soil thus far. They met in consecutive editions of the US Open, which was separated by a thriller in the Houston 2024 final. On Friday, they will contest yet another knockout at home. While Tiafoe has a chance to level proceedings, Shelton will be desperate to gain a substantial advantage against his long-time friend and rival.

Ben Shelton vs Frances Tiafoe ATP Citi DC Open 2025 Prediction

Tiafoe offered no let up during his match against Cobolli. The veteran managed to paint the lines in baseline exchanges, and used the crowd support to demolish the Cobolli serve. On the other hand, Shelton likes to return from deep behind the baseline, before forcing his opponents into awkward positions. The winner will be decided by who can attain more depth on their groundstrokes from the back of the court to take control of the rallies.

Prediction: Ben Shelton in three sets.
