Continue reading as we delve deeper into this match-up, and also look at the BetMGM odds ahead of the last eight bout.
After an impeccable grass court campaign that saw him put up a 13-2 win-loss record, Taylor Fritz has started the North American swing where he left off. With straight set wins over Vukic and Arnaldi so far, the 27-year-old has eased into the quarterfinals. Apart from his two titles at Stuttgart and Eastbourne, Fritz also made the semis at the Miami Masters. The American powerhouse has won 92% points on first serve at DC this year, and will be keen to build on his 32-12 season.
Top seed and world #4 Taylor Fritz beats Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-4 to reach the QFs in Washington for the 2nd time. Didn't get broken again and lost just three (!) 1st serve points all match.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be facing Fritz for the third time in his last four tournaments. The Spaniard is yet to taste championship success in 2025. The 26-year-old has fallen agonisingly short in poignant fashion, losing in the final at Delray Beach and Acapulco. He is currently on a 30-17 run this year, and defeated Munar and Tien en route to the quarterfinals. With the US Open just around the corner, a solid outing could ensure a maiden Top-20 entry for the Spaniard.

But when they moved to the other surfaces, the American won three out of the next four clashes. More recently, Fritz and Fokina met in back-to-back events at Eastbourne and Wimbledon, wherein the World No. 4 emerged triumphant in two tightly contested match-ups.

Having won the last two clashes against Fokina, it wouldn’t be wise to expect something drastically different on Friday. Fritz is looking in fine form, and his strong first serve percentage makes him practically unplayable. While the Spaniard will test Fritz’s movement and use his low centre of gravity to his advantage, the American is likely to pull this off in straight sets.
Prediction: Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
Fritz will start this match as the betting favourite against underdog Davidovich Fokina. The money line suggests a dominant 78% chance for the No. 1 seed to enter the semifinals over the weekend. Here are the odds for the match result, as well as the in-match specifications (as per BetMGM):
