A highly anticipated clash at the French Open 2025 was cancelled as injury sidelined Bencic.
Belinda Bencic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, has withdrawn from the 2025 Roland Garros due to an arm injury. She was set to face Elena Rybakina in a highly anticipated first-round clash. The one fans had been eagerly waiting for. Unfortunately, with Bencic’s withdrawal, the clash many were hoping to see won’t happen.

Bencic revealed through an Instagram story that she re-aggravated an arm injury during a morning practice session two days ago, forcing her to withdraw from the French Open. The injury initially occurred during her Rome campaign, where she was forced to retire mid-match against Maria Sakkari.
In the same update, Bencic offered an optimistic outlook, stating she expects to make a full recovery within two weeks. She also confirmed that her focus has now shifted to Wimbledon, signing off with, “Therefore, see you soon on the grass!” In her career, the Swiss has participated in five grass-court finals and made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon three times.

Bencic’s matchup against Elena Rybakina was highly anticipated by fans, with Bencic holding a 2-1 head-to-head lead. This match promised to be a decider, either Rybakina settling the score or Bencic extending their rivalry.
It would have been their second meeting this season, following Bencic’s hard-fought win in the Abu Dhabi semifinals, where she came back from a set down. Next, she upset Ashlyn Krueger in three sets to win her ninth singles title.

Unfortunately, that clash won’t happen at the French Open, but there’s plenty of time for future rematches. We’ll see Bencic and Rybakina face off again, just not this time in Paris.

I understood those voices aren't noise; they're emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
