The Belarusian is hunting down a fourth Grand Slam title.
The defending US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka will enter Arthur Ashe Stadium on opening day to take on Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland in Round-1. The World No. 1 is searching for her first title since winning the Madrid Open in May. However, she will have to navigate her way through a challenging draw in order to get there. Can Masarova cause a major upset in the Round of 128? Continue reading as we take the help of BetMGM to give you the best possible odds for this contest.
After a rollicking start to her campaign, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has struck a slight road block in the second half of the season. The 27-year-old won the title in Brisbane, before reaching the Australian Open final in January. After a mediocre Middle Eastern swing, Sabalenka was the runner-up at Indian Wells and Stuttgart and the champion at Miami and Madrid. She went on to lose to Gauff in the Roland Garros summit clash and reached two semifinals in the grass court season. With an immaculate 50-10 record in 2025, the top seed has bagged three titles and four finals so far.

On the other side of the net, Rebeka Masarova has a career-best second round finish at the US Open. The 26-year-old Swiss star has a 31-20 record in all competitions this year – entailing a 60% success rate. Currently the fourth best player from her country at No. 109 in the world, Masarova had an encouraging grass court outing in 2025 – including a semifinal run in Birmingham and pre-quarters in Berlin. She has one career Top-10 win as well as a solitary tour-level final. This is set to be her first main draw appearance across her last five events.
The head-to-head record between Sabalenka and Masarova stands at 1-0 in favour of the Belarusian Grand Slam champion. Their only previous meeting was at the Berlin Tennis Open in 2025. Sabalenka managed to master the German grass courts to overpower her Swiss opponent in straight sets. The 2025 US Open will be their first battle on hard courts, and first at the majors.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has an outstanding record at Flushing Meadows, reaching at least the semifinals or better across the past four years. Meanwhile, Masarova has a strong serve as well as the innate ability to go pound for pound from the baseline. However, her one dimensional approach means that she is unlikely to have answers when Sabalenka begins to outhit her in groundstroke exchanges. A day match means that conditions will be faster and bouncier – playing into the hands of the top seed.
Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.
Sabalenka is dominating the pre-match betting market, coming in with 1/50 odds of beating the underdog Masarova. She is also the favourite in the outright odds – as everything indicates that she could retain her title. According to the money line, Sabalenka has a 91% shot at advancing to the Round of 64 (as per BetMGM):
