Davis was injured during the first quarter against 76ers and didn't return.

The Los Angeles Lakers have suffered a huge setback as their star player Anthony Davis has been ruled out for at least one week after sustaining an abdominal muscle strain during loss against Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Davis got injured in the first quarter and didn’t return. The 31-year-old scored 4 points and got 2 rebounds before the injury ended his stay on the court.

Without Davis, the Lakers struggled and eventually went down 118-104. LeBron James, who has now moved to sixth place in all-time steals list, carried the team, scoring 31 points and contributed with 9 rebounds.

The Lakers on Wednesday revealed that the forward underwent an MRI which confirmed an abdominal muscle strain. The team also announced that Davis will return to Los Angeles and will be re-evaluated in one week.

Anthony Davis has been Lakers top scorer this season, averaging 26.3 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 29.8% from the three-point range in 41 games.

After the loss on Tuesday, LeBron James talked about the importance of Davis and who the team felt the absence of their star forward.

“It’s challenging,” LeBron James told reporters.

“If he’s out from the beginning we have our gameplan set, we know what to expect, we know what our lineup is going to be. When he goes down, any of our guys go down throughout the course of the game, it’s tough.”

Lakers, who are at 26-19 this season, will next travel to Washington to play Wizards on January 30.
