The Golden State Warriors have announced on Tuesday that the franchise will retire the former NBA Final MVP’s jersey on Sunday, Feb. 23. Andre Iguodala’s No. 9 jersey will be retired during the Warriors’ home game against the Dallas Mavericks.
Andre Iguodala will be the seventh player in Golden State’s history to have his jersey retired. The four-time NBA champion will join Wilt Chamberlain (13), Tom Meschery (14), Alvin Attles (16), Chris Mullin (17), Rick Barry (24), and Nate Thurmond (42) to achieve this honor.

Andre Iguodala joined Golden State Warriors in 2013 and won four titles during six Finals appearances. “Andre will go down as one of the smartest, shrewdest, and most unique and successful players ever to wear a Warriors uniform,” Warriors’ owner Joe Lacob said in a statement released by the team.
“We thought all of that could be true when we acquired him in 2013, but the reality — four titles, six Finals appearances, a Finals MVP — exceeded even our wildest imaginations. He was the perfect player and person at the perfect time for our team, and the sacrifice he made in coming off the bench in 2014 sent a message that he came here to help us do one thing: win.”
The swingman played eight seasons for the Warriors and guided them to NBA Finals six times. Iguodala averaged 6.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the floor. Stats would not impress the current fans but he remained the vital part of the Golden State’s roaster.

Look back at Andre Iguodala's 2015 NBA Finals MVP performance! pic.twitter.com/4fLsrhrIHV
Iguodala was named the 2015 NBA Finals MVP after the Warriors defeated LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers in the final. He helped the Warriors to win the NBA Championship after 40 years. His heroics helped Golden State to win the Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2022 as well.
After winning the Finals MVP award, Iguodala joined the NBA superstars who had four championships and an NBA Finals MVP. Stephen Curry, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, John Havlicek, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, and Tony Parker are the only players to achieve this glory.
Warriors will retire Iguodala’s jersey on Feb. 23 against the Dallas Mavericks and his former teammate Klay Thompson will be there. Iguodala always made the extra pass to set Thompson up for success. Golden State will also invite former players to watch the game live. Iguodala retired in 2023 and he is currently the NBPA Acting Executive Director.
