Another Grand Slam Record for Djokovic – Joins Andre Agassi With Unique Feat

Devavrat Kulkarni

Djokovic marches on with a convincing win in round 2

The player with the most Grand Slam titles in the history of men’s tennis continues to topple records and grow his legacy. Currently, making his 20th appearance at Wimbledon, the former world number 1 is pursuing a record-extending 25th career major.

However, while that may be the biggest prize in the sport, there are several other records the Serb has managed to break over the course of his long and decorated career. Recently, Djokovic has become the joint holder of yet another achievement following his second-round win at Wimbledon 2025.

Djokovic Ties the Record for Most Served Bagels at Slams

The seven-time Wimbledon winner took to the court yesterday for his second-round match against Dan Evans. Winning comfortably with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-0 scoreline, the Serb’s bagel in the third set meant that it was his 50th such set win (6-0) in all the Slams combined.

This now puts him alongside former tennis legend Andre Agassi as the only two men’s players in the open era to achieve the milestone. Winning a set by serving a bagel is no mean feat at the professional level of the sport.

All athletes have reached an extraordinary level in their respective games, but this latest accomplishment by the Serbian player highlights his dominance even further. The key to Djokovic’s success lies not in his powerful serve but in his overall game that focuses on precision, shot selection, counter-punching ability, and mental fortitude, among others.

How Has Djokovic’s Game Helped Him Dominate

In order to bagel the opponent, a player has to win 3 consecutive service games and earn 3 consecutive breaks of serve. This is not as easy as it may sound.

In Djokovic’s case, as mentioned earlier, he is not the biggest of servers, but it is his accuracy and ability to constantly put balls back into play that help him win more points. He is also great at executing deep balls, pinning his opponent to the baseline more often than not.

Moreover, there is no shot in his repertoire that he is a major weakness, as his forehand, backhand, slice, drop, are all effective. He boasts an all-court game, allowing him to succeed on clay, grass, and hard courts, while his defensive skills are second to none.

But, perhaps the biggest quality he has in his arsenal is his return of serve. In fact, Djokovic is considered to be the best returner in the men’s game today. In that sense, it is fitting that he has equalled the bagel record held by Agassi, as the American was also considered to be the best returner during his era.

Djokovic may be entering the end of his time on the tennis court. Recently, he has hinted that he may be close to retirement, even though he would like to continue as much as possible. But until that day comes, Djokovic will continue to amaze, and more records may continue to tumble.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
