Alexander Zverev celebrates advancing to 3rd round of the US Open.
There is a clear demarcation at the summit of men’s tennis. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are usually placed in a category of their own. Just beneath them comes Alexander Zverev, who might just be the next one to break out into their club. However, despite all the talent, Zverev just hasn’t found that final gear yet. But all thanks to his trip to Mallorca, where he trained with the Nadal family, Sascha is in high spirits for the US Open. In fact, such is his confidence that Zverev has sent a big message to Alcaraz and Sinner.
Is it any surprise that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz remain the two top favorites for the 2025 US Open? Between them, the two have won the last 7 Grand Slams. The interesting part? 2 of those Grand Slams came in a final starring Alexander Zverev. Though the German has been consistent, he just hasn’t been able to find a solution for his Sinner and Alcaraz problem (in the Grand Slams, at least). However, that doesn’t stop him from having a big goal – something he revealed in a recent interview.
“I’m here to spoil the party,” Zverev said straightforwardly. The message was clear – he wants to end the winning streak of Sinner and Alcaraz. As of now, Zverev is 6-6 against Alcaraz and 4-3 against Sinner. The chances of him succeeding in the US Open might be high because Zverev has finally started to look like his old self after his infamous Wimbledon implosion. However, one also can’t forget his health struggles during his semi-finals run in the Cincinnati Open.
It certainly would be an interesting to watch Zverev, especially because he has quite a simple draw till the semi-finals. But in the semi-finals, he’ll have to face Sinner (provided both him and Sinner make it there, of course). That’ll once again force Zverev to figure out a way to beat Sinner – something that’s proven to be difficult for him. However, first Zverev will have to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in round 3.

On paper, Alexander Zverev doesn’t have much to worry about in his meeting with Felix Auger-Aliassime. The German is 6-2 against the Canadian in his career. However, Zverev isn’t taking things lightly, especially because Aliassime could prove to be a tricky opponent. More importantly, Aliassime is in fine form right now.

“He’s somebody that when he plays well, he plays really well,” Zverev said of Auger-Aliassime. “When he doesn’t play well, he really doesn’t play well. He’s in the third round, that means he’s playing well.”
Zverev also noted that it’s a matchup that has favored him in the past. But with the kind of upsets we’ve seen in the US Open till now, it won’t be surprising to see an electric contest here. While Zverev does want to spoil the Alcaraz-Sinner party, they aren’t the only players in this tournament. He still needs to beat everyone else to advance, and that’s the real challenge.

A passionate sports fan since childhood, it was always my dream to cover the peak of human potential. Baseball, Tennis, and Football (or Soccer) have been closest to my heart. From Rafael Nadal’s never-say-die attitude to Roger Federer’s beautiful backhand, I’ve seen it all. Prior to the Playoffs, I’ve worked in EssentiallySports and Pro Football and Sports Network.

Perhaps that’s why I love indulging in some fun banter and always try to inculcate a debate through my work. That’s why I encourage the readers to express their views freely – after all, that’s what makes sports fun.
