Alex Pereira’s Coach Knew About Charles Oliveira’s Potential Before Everybody Else Did!

Charles Oliveira is one of the best fighters we’ve ever seen in the UFC and has been fighting in the Octagon since 2010. He has fought in a total of 45 MMA fights and has a 35-10-0 record. It took the Brazilian nearly 11 years to win his first title but he achieved his goal of capturing the lightweight belt.

For the amount of time Oliveira has spent in the Octagon, he’s also set some of the most impressive records in the UFC. He has the most finishes out of any other fighter in the UFC with 20, is tied for second in most wins secured with 23, has fought in 34 fights so far (tied for 6th in total fights), and also has the most submission wins in UFC history with 16.

Oliveira signed with the UFC when he was just 20 years of age and after going winless in the first three fights at 155, Oliveira moved to the Featherweight division before coming back to the lightweight division again. After defeating Clay Guida in 2018, Oliveira went on an impressive, 11-fight win streak, which will go down as some of the greatest runs we’ve ever seen in the UFC. Not only did he win 11 fights, but he also captured the belt and successfully defended it two times in that stretch.

Even though Oliveira’s 35 years old, he has continued to strike fear in his opponents and rack up wins in the octagon.

Plinio Cruz Knew Oliveira Would Be a Champion Someday

Recently, Laura Sanko (UFC’s commentator) revealed that when she trained under Pereira’s coach, Plinio Cruz, he pointed at a skinny kid, with coke-bottle glasses sitting in the corner and said “That kid is going to be a champion one day.” That kid turned out to be Charles Oliveira.

Cruz is Alex Pereira’s coach and has helped Poatan become a household name in the UFC so it is no surprise that he has an eye for talented fighters.

Even if Oliveira were to retire today, he would go down as some of the best UFC fighters of all time, but the Brazilian has no plans to retire and instead wants another title shot against Islam Makhachev. However, there’s a lot of chaos in the lightweight division and there is no definitive answers to who Oliveira, Makhachev, Topuria, or any of the top contenders will fight next.
