The Pittsburgh Steelers have long coveted Aaron Rodgers, seeing the four-time MVP as the missing piece to end their 7-year playoff win drought. After a disappointing 2024 season with the New York Jets, Rodgers became a free agent, and the Steelers decided to pursue him aggressively, hosting him at their practice facility earlier this year. However, Rodgers’ indecisiveness dragged on for months, leaving the Steelers in a very confused situation. Add to it his cryptic Q&A session, where he dropped vague hints about his future without commitment, that frustrated fans and analysts alike.
Rodgers’ prolonged deliberate delay, test the Steeler’s resolve, especially as they let quarterbacks such as Justin Field and Russell Wilson sign with new teams. While Rodgers may have pissed a lot of people off, in the end the uncertainty was all removed by June 5, 2025, when he agreed to a one-year deal. Now that Rodgers is officially signed with the Steelers, the city hopes his veteran presence can spark at least a deeper postseason run, and of course all eyes will be on Mike Tomlin and what he can do to revamp the team’s and Rodger’s offense.

Rodgers’ performance with the Jets was far from his ideal self, which diminished his stock in the market this offseason. At 41, Rodgers may not be the superstar-level player that he once was, but Pittsburgh defense and Mike Tomlin could help unlock Rodgers, and hopefully win them at least one playoff game, which they haven’t won in 7 years.
