Unsolved Puzzle Continues for Alex de Minaur! Australian No. 1 Extends Unwanted Record against Top-10 being part of this Club

Gulshan Sharma

The Australian No. 1 won last month's Citi Dc Open to claim his 10th ATP Tour title.

Australian No. 1, Alex de Minaur crashed out from the ATP National Bank Open after going down in straight sets against Ben Shelton in the quarterfinal. It was the first time de Minaur and Shelton had faced each other on tour. The American ace dispatched de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals in Toronto.

During the game, the Aussie committed 28 unforced errors and achieved 14 winners. De Minaur won’t be happy with this performance but it will help him to improve in the ongoing North American hard-court swing. However, Alex de Minaur set a disappointing record as the top-10 player.

Alex de Minaur set disappointing record against top-10 players

Alex de Minaur is yet to beat a top-10 player on the ATP tour since being part of the top-10 club. The Aussie has beaten top-10 players in past but he couldn’t hold the pressure when he became the top-10 player. De Minaur has gone 0-12 against the top-10 players since inducted into the same club.

The Australian No. 1 won last month’s Citi Dc Open to claim his 10th ATP Tour title. He scripted a glorious comeback and beat Alejandro Davidovic Fokina in a third-set tiebreak. De Minaur knows how to beat the top-10 players but he went into the pressure since being part of this.

Last year, de Minaur beat world No. 10 Taylor Fritz in United Cup and later, secured a victory against Novak Djokovic. He beat Alexander Zverev to take third consecutive top-10 victory. With his remarkable performance, he became the first Aussie player to enter top-10 since Lleyton Hewitt in 2006.

De Minaur will now shift his focus on the Cincinnati Masters where he is the sixth seed player. In this masters event, big names like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will make comeback. The Australian ace has reached the quarterfinals in 2020 and 2024 US Open so he will eye a deep run this year.
