Canadian GP Qualifying Results: George Russell Reclaims Pole, Verstappen and Piastri Follow!

The Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying came to an end on Saturday with a lot of varying results. This time around both McLarens were off the pace. Mercedes and Red Bull ended up winning the front row for the Canadian GP. The top-2 drivers from qualifying are the same as last year.

George Russell has been driving considerably fast all weekend during the Free Practice sessions. He returned to pole in Canada once again in 2025. The top-10 drivers for the Canadian GP are nearly the same as every other weekend. Only this time around, Fernando Alonso managed to get himself a good position for the upcoming race. Throughout the session, drivers had to face many situations including a red flag and minor infringements. This caused chaos in the starting grid by the time everything settled down.

George Russell stormed to pole in Montreal with a time of 1:10.999 on Saturday. This time around he managed to put in a better lap than Max Verstappen. Russell was also the fastest driver using the medium tyres unlike the softest C6 compound. Last year, Max Verstappen clocked in same lap as Russell. This time he will have to suffice with a front row in Canada. Verstappen was on provisional pole until Russell absolutely destroyed the competition on Medium tyres. The championship leader Oscar Piastri meanwhile has to hunt down his rivals from second row.

The Silver Arrows were absolutely flying in Canada. Kimi Antonelli claimed a P4 finish in the final moments to start just behind Russell. He was followed by Lewis Hamilton in fifth. Hamilton proved to be the better driver in Ferrari yet again. Compared to him, Charles Leclerc could only go eighth fastest. The qualifying session was also surprisingly good for Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard brought in P6 after doubting his performance during Free Practice.

Lando Norris is one of the losers from Saturday’s session. He is starting in P7, way behind the favorable spot for a race victory. Isack Hadjar and Alex Albon completed the top-10 in P9 and P10 respectively.

Canadian GP Qualifying- A String of Disappointments in the Rest of the Grid

Yuki Tsunoda missed out on Q3 with a P11 finish. The Japanese driver was later struck with a penalty. Franco Colapinto managed to bring in his best qualifying performance of the season with a P12. He was followed by Nico Hulkenberg and the two Haas drivers.

Carlos Sainz was the among first drivers to get knocked out in the Q1. He was devastated after a confident performance during the practice sessions. Lance Stroll suffered equal disappointment with a P18 finish in front of his home crowd.
