Race Highlights from the Suzuka International Circuit after the Japanese Grand Prix!
The third of race 2025 Formula 1 season comes to an end in Japan. The Suzuka International Circuit bore witness to F1 racing earlier than its previous schedules in F1. Contrary to the past races of Suzuka’s history, Formula 1 decided to shift the track earlier in the 2025 calendar. Even though, Suzuka could not bear witness to another F1 championship crown, the race gave us many precious stories on track.
If we describe the Japanese Grand Prix, we won’t have superfluous action to mention. There were no clashes, no drivers spinning out and no turn-1 crash amongst the 20 contenders. Even this ruthless circuit decided to take a break from its usual schedule and give all drivers a chance to finish their races. But, if we look closely we can find some amazing moments which happened during the race. The biggest highlight of the Japanese Grand Prix was undoubtedly Max Verstappen and Lando Norris’s pit exit battle.
However, let’s go through the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix Race highlights and find out 5 key moments which stood out during the race-
The Suzuka International Circuit completed 53 out of 53 laps under green flagged conditions. It is the first race of the April triple-header of Formula 1. Suzuka was rather cloudy and cold for the drivers. These conditions stopped tyre graining and degradation, thus, helping drivers maintain temperatures and race freely. The fear of overheating tyres was absent and it led to many fast paced moves in the field. The podium finishers, Max, Lando and Oscar were the prime examples of this effect.
Kimi Antonelli has been Mercedes’s surprise package from the start of the 2025 season. The Silver Arrows have a dependable driver amongst themselves. Antonelli and Russell form a good pairing to snatch points for Mercedes throughout the season. Antonelli has finished every race in points. He was able match his teammate’s pace in Qualifying and earn himself the 6th position on the grid.

The entire race, Kimi Antonelli defended from Lewis Hamilton and made use of the clean air to keep his race position safe. He ended the race in 6th place. But, Antonelli’s best moment was during the lap 48. He set the fastest time during the race and in the history of Japanese Grand Prix. Antonelli beat former Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, to set a time of 1:30.965. He was also leading the race after Max and Lando pit on lap 22. He earned the record of becoming the youngest race leader in Formula 1.
When the Formula 1 2025 season started in Australia, a lot of drivers faced terrible disappointments. Isack Hajdar suffered the worst after crashing his car during the formation lap. He was called out for crying after committing a mistake. Hemut Marko even labelled him as “embarassing”. It was Lewis Hamilton’s father who gave the young French rookie much needed motivation.

Fast forward to Sunday, April 6th, Hajdar was starting ahead of his idol, Lewis Hamilton. He faced many difficulties in the qualifying session but still managed to put his Racing Bull on 7th. Isack Hajdar spent the rest of the race defending his 8th position after an early overtake by Hamilton. He competed against veterans like Sainz, Albon and Hamilton. In the end, we can say that Isack Hajdar among the best drivers throughout the weekend.
Max Verstappen jumped to grab pole during the qualifying session. He was as suprised as the entire F1 paddock when this happened. However, Sunday came and Verstappen proved why he had four championships under his belt. Max Verstappen reacted instantly and claimed a sizeable gap after the first turn during race start.

Verstappen spent the rest of the race ahead of Lando Norris. He made sure that, Norris, who was on his tow the whole time could not get into DRS activation range. The clean air ahead of Max Verstappen also helped him maintain his tyres. Verstappen gave a befitting farewell to Honda at their home race in the Japanese Grand Prix.
McLaren did not really have a lot to lose this weekend. They have established that they are the fastest team on track in these intial races of 2025 F1 season. But, the Papaya team does not have its priorities straight. The entire race, Lando Norris chased Max Verstappen in vain. He was not able to claim the lead of the race from the Dutch Lion. Oscar Piastri, who was behind him, was easily in a better position to attack Max Verstappen. However, McLaren did not let Piastri have a go at Verstappen. This happened even though, last weekend Piastri claimed an easy victory in China.

Many F1 experts and former drivers battered McLaren for their decisions. The entire Formula 1 paddock was shocked to see McLaren use predictable tactics and same strategy for both of their drivers. Norris lost his victory and now Verstappen is eerily close to him in driver standings with a gap of one point.
Alex Albon has secured three consecutive points finishes in the first three races of the season. He finished P9 for Williams at the Japanese Grand Prix. This is the first time Williams has secured three consecutive points finishes in F1 after the 2017 season. On the surface, things looked pretty calm for Albon. However, the former Red Bull driver was very angry over his team during the race.

Alex Albon was not at all satisfied with his team’s strategy in Japan. He vented his frustrations over the radio to his team. Albon had also faced issues earlier on while shifting gears. Alex Albon was feeling confident about the car a week ago. But, the Japanese Grand Prix seems to have struck a nerve in his mind.
The best part of 2025 Japanese Grand Prix race highlights was yet to come. Fernando Alonso was not yet classified as a Formula 1 driver. He had not finished two out of the two starting races in the 2025 season. The Spaniard was exempted from the driver standings as a result of his retirements from the previous races. While, he did not earn points in Japan. He surely earned himself a place in the driver standings.

nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
