Jared Goff’s Record-Setting Day Overshadowed by Dan Campbell’s Hilarious Blunder in Lions Win

Coach Dan Campbell gave everyone a reason to laugh out loud with a hilarious ball blunder after Jared Goff’s perfect 18-for-18 passing attempts. The Detroit Lions handed the previously undefeated Seattle Seahawks their first ‘L’ on Week 4’s Monday Night Football. But instead of giving the match ball to his starting quarterback, the Lions’ head coach gave it to someone else.

When asked by a reporter about Jared Goff’s almost flawless performance, Coach Campbell hilariously replied, “Yeah well, I just gave the game ball to somebody else, so I feel awful right now.” Adding further, he said, “I knew he played a heck of a game. I did not realize he was perfect, l did not know he was 18 for 18.”

The Detroit Lions coach added that he is proud of the guys for the win and credited them for playing complimentary football. Known for his aggressive play-calling, Dan Campbell was responsible for the Lions’ resurgence in the 2023 season, where they reached the NFC championship game.

Jared Goff sets the NFL record for most passing attempts without an incompletion

Monday Night Football versus the Seattle Seahawks was a special night for Lions QB Jared Goff. Goff set the NFL record for most passing attempts without an incompletion and the most yards ever without an incompletion in a single game. The California native went 18-for-18 for 292 yards in the Lions’ win over the Seahawks at the Ford Field.

The previous record for most passes without incompletion belongs to Cardinals QB Kurt Warner (8-for-8). The record for most yards without incompletion was held by Frank Filchock when he went 8-for-8 for 179 yards against the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1939. Goff smashed both records in one night, playing nearly the perfect game every quarterback dreams of.

Jameson Williams shines with a 70-yard touchdown

Apart from Jared Goff’s perfect game, Lions’ wide receiver Jameson Williams electrified the crowd with a 70-yard touchdown that sent the fans into a frenzy. Williams caught a pass from Goff and turned it into a 70-yard touchdown.

The Lions’ WR celebrated the TD with a dunk through the goalpost to pay homage to Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson, who is regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. However, Williams was penalized with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for his celebration.

The Detroit Lions now hold a win-loss record of 3-1 through the Week 4 of 2024 NFL Season. Week 5 is a Bye-Week for Dan Campbell and Co. The Detroit Lions will face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 at the AT&T Stadium on October 14, 2024.
