NBA legends and Fever teammates are publicly stepping in to shield Clark from rising hostility
Caitlin Clark has had a tough time in the WNBA ever since her debut. Not because of her performance, but due to the consistent rough treatment she’s received since stepping into the WNBA. She has been consistently targeted on the court with hard tackles and reckless challenges.
In the recent Fever vs. Sun game, Clark was poked in the eye by Jacy Sheldon before being violently shoved to the floor by Marina Mabrey during the same game. And this was not the first time such an incident has occurred against Caitlin.
A growing resentment toward her from WNBA peers is becoming increasingly toxic, both on and off the court. Despite being the league’s biggest draw with record-breaking viewership and revenue boosts, the WNBA has failed to provide Clark the protection she deserves.

Former Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett has come out in support of Caitlin Clark after recent incidents. He suggested that the Indiana Fever forward is doing something right when so many are hating her.
Kevin Garnett said, “It’s a privilege to be in a position where others are hating on you. And when others are hating on you, that means you’re doing something right.”
The Caitlin Clark incident against the Connecticut Sun left a bad taste on many Fever players. One among them was Sophie Cunningham who was not happy with Jacy Sheldon going so far as to poking into a player’s eye.
The 28-year-old with the final minute left in the game tackled Sheldon aggressively avenging for Clark. A massive brawl erupted, forcing officials to issue technical fouls and multiple ejections to regain control of the court.
Sophie Cunningham on the incident said, “I think the refs had a lot to do with that. It was a build-up for a couple years now of them just not protecting the star player of the WNBA. At the end of the day, I’m going to protect my teammates. That’s what I do.”

The Indiana Fever fans rejoiced on social media after what Cunningham did for Caitlin Clark. Many suggested that the team has finally found its own version of Draymond Green.
