There is a saying that “Never meet your heroes,” and it turned out to be true for Cody Rhodes at the 2025 Elimination Chamber. John Cena won the Elimination Chamber but joined the Rock and betrayed Cody Rhodes. They met again at WrestleMania, but Cody Rhodes chose his morals over victory and lost his title to John Cena. Cena vowed to ruin wrestling for wrestlers and WWE fans and has been trying everything to do that.

John Cena turned heel and has been defending his WWE United States title successfully. He defended his title against Randy Orton at Backlash and then against CM Punk at Night of Champions. His tactics have earned him a lot of boos, but have also helped him to retain his title. Cody Rhodes took one month to be back in WWE and has pinned Cena once in a tag team match, all thanks to R-Truth.

Cody Rhodes has been chasing his WWE Undisputed Championship and participated in the King of the Ring tournament to get his opportunity. He defeated Damian Priest, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Andrade in a fatal four-way to qualify for the semifinals. He defeated Jey Uso in the semifinals and Randy Orton in the finals at Night of Champions to become the King of the Ring and instantly announced he would go after John Cena.

John Cena and Cody Rhodes have had numerous verbal and physical altercations, and the latter has always asked for a fight against Real John Cena, not the one who is hellbent on ruining wrestling. John Cena and Cody Rhodes met on SmackDown for the contract signing, but the former refused to sign the contract and asked Cody Rhodes to postpone the match. His reason was the excess workload as he is working on a movie.

Cody Rhodes didn’t like it one bit and brutalized John Cena forcing his faint body into signing the contract and revealed that the match would be street fight. John Cena and Cody Rhodes met again inside the ring on last Friday Night SmackDown, and to the delight of everyone, John Cena delivered a promo claiming that he has turned face again. He claimed he loves wrestling and will never think of ruining it.

Cody Rhodes is speculated to win the match and become the new WWE Undisputed Champion. It would be him who will turn heel this time. Cody Rhodes has already claimed that the offer from Final Boss is still on. This would be his time to accept the offer and turn heel on John Cena. This would create a perfect storyline for John Cena’s retirement, which is just a few months away now.
