Ashish Negi

Get to know all about announced matches for WWE Backlash 2025.

The conflict that begins at WrestleMania always leads to Backlash. WrestleMania 41, which took place three weeks ago, will be followed by its Backlash event this coming Saturday. Actions always have consequences, and the actions performed inside a wrestling ring require another ring to address those consequences. The live action of Backlash 2025 will start at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT from Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

WWE has announced five matches for the 2025 Backlash. Four title matches, including the WWE Undisputed Championship, Women’s Intercontinental Championship, Men’s Intercontinental Championship, and Men’s United States Championship. Pat McAfee has been part of eight matches in WWE so far, most of which occurred at a PLE. WWE might announce one more match on Friday Night SmackDown.

Lyra Valkyria(c) vs. Becky Lynch for Women’s Intercontinental Championship

The alliance between Lyra Valkyria and her mentor, Becky Lynch, lasted just one day. Becky Lynch returned to WWE at WrestleMania as a replacement for Bayley, who got injured before her match. Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria defeated Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez to become the new WWE Women’s tag team champions. Their titles reign, however, lasted just one day, and they lost them to the former champions.

Becky Lynch turned heel and attacked Lyra Valkyria after the match, flooring her with three Manhandle Slams. This started a series of verbal and physical assaults between them. Becky Lynch revealed that she was the one who attacked Bayley. This made Lyra Valkyria put her title on the line against Becky Lynch at Backlash to get her hands on the Man.

Dominic Mysterio(c) vs. Penta for Men’s Intercontinental Championship

The rivalry between Penta and Judgment Day is lifelong, as the latter has cost Penta numerous matches. Penta retaliated by costing them the match against the War Raiders. Judgment Day recently cost Penta the title match against Dominic Mysterio. Penta, however, was able to overcome the interruption from Finn Balor, Carlito, and Chad Gable to beat JD McDonagh. He will now face Dominic Mysterio for the Men’s IC title at Backlash.

Gunther vs. Pat McAfee

Gunther lost his WWE Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania by tapping out on his own move. This brought heavy criticism from across the globe. The critics included Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. When Gunther confronted Michael Cole, the latter mocked with the remark, “I was not the one who tapped out.” This did not go well with Gunther, who lost his cool, pushed Pat McAfee, and held Michael Cole in a sleeper hold.

Pat McAfee jumped to the aid of his fellow commentator but fell prey to Gunther’s brutality. Gunther held him in the sleeper hold and didn’t let go. He was fined a hefty amount and suspended indefinitely, but Pat McAfee didn’t like it. He asked Nick Aldis for a fight against Gunther instead. Nick announced that he would face Gunther at Backlash.

Jacob Fatu(c) vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre vs. LA Knight for the WWE Men’s US Title

Jacob Fatu defeated LA Knight at WrestleMania to become the WWE United States Champion. LA Knight and Drew McIntyre both requested title matches against Jacob Fatu, and it was decided that the two would face each other for the #1 contendership for the US title. Solo Sikoa interrupted the match and delivered a Samoan Spike to LA Knight. Damian Priest delivered a South of Heaven to Damian Priest, sending him through the table.

Jacob Fatu entered and laid waste to both LA Knight and Damian Priest. Drew McIntyre won the match via DQ. LA Knight and Damian Priest had a dispute a week later, and they too fought in a match that was again interrupted by Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. Nick Aldis questioned them for interrupting matches in back-to-back weeks and announced a Fatal Four-Way match for the WWE Men’s United States Championship.

John Cena(c) vs Randy Orton for the WWE Undisputed Championship

John Cena won his 17th WWE Championship at WrestleMania, leaving behind all the legends of his league. He vowed to ruin wrestling when he received the first RKO that revived the John Cena-Randy Orton rivalry that we all loved so much. They met again on SmackDown and had a verbal dispute where John Cena vowed to wipe out the Orton Family legacy.

John Cena announced that he would face Randy Orton at Backlash 2025 in the latter’s hometown. John Cena attempted a cheap shot on Randy Orton, and the latter delivered another RKO. Randy Orton vowed to kick John Cena’s head clean off his shoulder last week. John Cena and Randy Orton will face each other for the WWE Undisputed Championship. Will it be the last time they face each other?
