Musetti and his coach share a special familial bond enhanced through a long-term relationship
Italian 23-year-old Lorenzo Musetti has taken giant strides on the men’s circuit in the past couple of months. While Musetti was always a top 20, top 30 player ever since September 2022, it took him more than 2 years to make his way inside the top 10 for the first time.
However, following his latest performances during this year’s clay swing, the Italian finally broke into the top ten for the first time and is currently the number 7th-ranked player in the world, making this his career-best ranking to date. His splendid performances at this year’s Monte-Carlo Masters, followed by the Madrid and Rome Masters, have propelled him to a new level.
Ahead of his quarter-final against Frances Tiafoe at the French Open today, Musetti has both form and consistency on his side with a finals appearance in Monte-Carlo, followed by consecutive semi-final appearances in Madrid and Rome. But, while Musetti is doing all the hard work on court, who is the staff in the background helping him achieve this success?
Lorenzo Musetti’s coach is Simone Tartarini, who has been with him ever since Musetti was a young nine-year-old. As a young child, Musetti mentioned in an on-court interview after his fourth-round win over Holger Rune that he first held a mini racket at the age of 4 and then started taking tennis lessons.
By age nine, Musetti joined Tatarini’s tennis academy in La Spezia, Italy, and although it took him approximately 30 minutes to reach the academy, Musetti quickly became comfortable with Tatarini’s coaching methods and the duo have never looked back since.

The 8th seed at this year’s French Open considers Tartarini not only as his coach, but also looks up to him like a father figure. And, the respect is mutual as Tartarini considers Musetti like a son. In fact, during an interview, Musetti talked about his coach with nothing but praise and admiration.
“We know each other since I was nine, and we started working when I was nine, and it never ended, so, really, as I always said, (he’s) like a second father to me and I (he’s) a figure of my family, I would say. ”
Per reports, former tennis player turned coach, Corrado Barazzutti, also joined Musetti’s camp as a part-time coach, but Tartarini remains the Italian’s one true coach. The pair has achieved success together and is aiming for a Grand Slam win one day. There are no details as to other staff members, apart from his fitness coach and trainer, Damiano Fiorucci.
Musetti’s fitness coach is Damiano Fiorucci, who is also the fitness coach of the Italian Tennis Federation and the Italian National Team. He is also a massophysiotherapist and has worked with the likes of Fabio Fognini, Alexander Dolgopolov, Potito Starace, Matteo Donati, and Lorenzo Sonego in the past.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
