Which Countries Have Qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

The road to the FIFA World Cup 2026 is well underway. The latest round of qualifiers has given fans a much clearer picture of the nations set to feature at next year’s global showpiece event. With holders Argentina already booking their place at the 2026 World Cup, several other teams have now confirmed their spots.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across three host nations – the USA, Canada, and Mexico – who all qualify automatically. It will be the biggest World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams, a significant expansion from the 32 that competed in Qatar 2022.

Notably, Qualification for World Cup 2026 is being staged across FIFA’s six continental confederations. These are UEFA (Europe), CONMEBOL (South America), CONCACAF (North & Central America and the Caribbean), CAF (Africa), AFC (Asia), and OFC (Oceania).

Which Countries Have Qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

Japan were the first team to qualify back on March 20, setting the tone for what’s been an exciting and competitive qualification race so far. As of now, 42 of the 48 available spots have been confirmed for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. There are still six spots up for grabs which will be booked through the play-offs in in March next year.

UEFA will have 16 spots at the 2026 World Cup. The path is straightforward – the 12 group winners from qualifying will go straight to the tournament. For the rest, it gets trickier – 12 runners-up and four teams from Nations League rankings will fight it out in four separate playoff paths.

With six spots still to be filled, the picture will continue to develop over the coming months. The countdown is officially on for what promises to be the most competitive World Cup in history.
