What’s the Next Move for Jurgen Klopp? Agent Responds to Rumours of Surprise Return

Reports Linking Jurgen Klopp to Serie a Club Roma Prompt a Response From His Agent.

Speculation surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s return to management gained momentum this week. The rumours started following a report from La Stampa. The report claimed that the former Liverpool boss had agreed to take over as head coach of Serie A side AS Roma.

However, Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke has firmly dismissed these claims. He labelled them saying it’s all ‘total nonsense’. Speaking to WinWin, Kosicke flatly denied the story, saying, “Klopp coaching Roma? This news is not true.” He doubled down on that position in a statement to BILD, as he added:

“It’s getting boring having to constantly comment on such rumours.” Klopp, 57, stepped down from his nine-year tenure at Liverpool at the end of the 2023–24 season. He cited exhaustion as his reason for leaving, saying “I know that I cannot do the job again and again.”

However, his comments did not exactly say that he is entirely retiring from the job. He mentioned ‘now’ when giving a verdict on his managerial career in future. He said, “If you ask me, ‘Will you ever work as a manager again?’ I would say now no.”

New Role, Old Questions

Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has taken on a new position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer. It’s a role that has already taken him to Japan and Brazil. In his unveiling, he reflected on the transition, saying, “I wasn’t really happy as a coach anymore… I’m a very curious person and wanted to try something new.”

Despite this, rumours have continued to link him with several high-profile jobs. This includes a potential arrival at Real Madrid before Xabi Alonso emerged as the preferred candidate. The rumours to Roma was followed by the announcement that current manager Claudio Ranieri, 73, would soon be stepping down.

Ranieri’s exit has prompted plenty of speculation. However, even Roma have dismissed the report suggesting that Klopp had accepted the job. The club has not revealed the identity of its next manager, although Ranieri offered a vague hint after the final home game: “All I can tell you is that he’ll be younger than me.”

What’s Next for Jurgen Klopp?

Luring Klopp to the capital would certainly be a dream for the Stadio Olimpico board. However, to their and many fans’ disappointment, recent comments and actions suggest that the German tactician is content exploring life away from the sidelines. That is, for now. Whether the decision will remain the same or not in the longer run is a question only time will answer.
