Mohamed Salah has fiercely defended teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool right-back was booed during the club’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal. Alexander-Arnold recently confirmed that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season. Rumours have blasted everywhere that he will be joining Real Madrid next season.

It’s almost sure news now, but no official communication has arrived from either of the two clubs involved or the player and his entourage. Even so, Liverpool fans are certainly not happy with the news. The defender has received jeers from sections of the home crowd. It sparked a passionate response from Salah.

Speaking to Gary Neville on Sky Sports, Salah expressed shock at the crowd’s reaction during what was Alexander-Arnold’s first appearance since his announcement. He said, “Absolutely. I was surprised because this is not how we act as Liverpool fans. I think somehow the fans were being harsh with him. He didn’t deserve it.”

The Egyptian forward went on to describe the Madrid-bound defender as “probably the best homegrown player in the club’s history.” He also emphasized the emotional toll of spending two decades at one club. He said, “He needs to change and challenge himself… Going every day to the same place—mentally you could be depressed.”
