The Washington Commanders had a remarkable 2024-2025 NFL season, finishing with a 12-5 regular season record, a significant leap from their 4-13 record, primarily due to their first-year head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters. They helped the team achieve its first winning season since 2016 where their winning percentage was above .500., and their highest win total since 1991 where they won the Super Bowl. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, selected second overall in the 2024 NFL draft. He was a standout setting NFL records, and helped the Commanders win 7 out of their 9 games at home.

The Commanders excelled with Daniels’ leading the pack, and they entered the playoffs for the first time since 2020. They beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wildcard round, and then went on to knock off the No.1 seed Detroit Lions, and then they entered the NFC Championship round where they ultimately came up short against the eventual champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, who outclassed them with their excellent play. The Commanders made the Conference championship round for the first time since 1991, and it was clear that the Commanders are the next team to keep an eye on in the upcoming future.

What are the Commanders’ Draft Picks in 2025?

The Commanders were a great team in the 2024 season. The had a lot of things working for them, especially on the offensive side of the field. However, if they want to achieve similar levels of success or more, their defense needs to stronger. And there is no better way than to draft some of the defensive players from the NFL draft. The Commanders need better edge rushers, a quality running back, and some offensive lineman, in our opinion, to become even stronger than they already were.

Positional Needs for the Commanders

The Commanders need better edge rushers, as they struggled to generate constant quarterback pressure last season. They lost Dante Fowler Jr. in the free agency, which has got to sting a bit. He was the sack leader for the Commanders last season, and the NFL draft is one of the ways to make up for the loss that they suffered.

They could also use some better running backs, and even though Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler are solid, the Commanders seek a dynamic running back, who could play the position even better. The deep 2025 draft class offers some options on Day 2 or 3 to add a change-of-pace runner.

The Washington Commanders could also use reinforcement, especially with Sam Cosmi sidelined with an ACL Injury. While the team traded for Laremy Tunsil which has already strengthened tackle, depth and a long-term solution are critical to protect their franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels.
