After reaching the Super Bowl in the 2023 season, the 49ers were on a high. They were back-to-back NFC West Champions and had reached the latter stages of the postseason for the second year in a row. The 49ers ran a brilliantly designed offensive system relying heavily on the run allowing them to free up their receivers as well.

With Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Geroge Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and others, San Francisco was able to get the best out of quarterback Brock Purdy. On the other side of the ball, the 49ers boasted of playmakers all around including Nick Bosa and Fred Warner just to name a couple. While everything seemed perfect to run it back, the team was hit by the injury bug in 2024 and they struggled mightily as they missed making the postseason.

Cut to the 2025 offseason, and the 49ers have started to rebuild. San Francisco has lost many players this offseason, and that could be due to the impending big contract for Purdy in the near future. As a matter of fact, to put this into perspective, the 49ers have moved on from the likes of Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenlaw, Charvarius Ward, Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, Talanoa Hufanga, and many more. With nearly 17 players gone from the roster, the 49ers have some important gaps to fill in this year’s draft.

What Are the 49ers’ Draft Picks in 2025?

This year, the 49ers have as many as 11 picks in the 7-round NFL draft which is a good sign for a team looking to retool their roster. With the exception of round 6, the 49ers will have a minimum of one selection in all the other rounds, with multiple draft picks in rounds 3,4,5, and 7. At present, their first-round draft pick is number 11 overall.

Positional Needs for the 49ers

An area of the field that needs to be upgraded is the defensive line. Sure, they still have a high-performing Nick Bosa, but he will need more help and this year the interior defensive line group is relatively strong which means the 49ers could get a quality D-lineman at number 11 overall.

With the loss of Javon Hargrave and Leonard Floyd, San Francisco is left with big voids to fill at the edge position. Thankfully, this is also one of the stronger groups in this year’s draft and they should be able to get a decent edge rusher even in rounds 2 or 3.

Moving over to the secondary, San Fran lost Charvarius Ward who was a big piece of their unit at cornerback. It would be a good idea to draft a corner in this draft who can slot into a young secondary comprising Renardo Green, Deommodore Lenoir, and Malik Mustapha.

On offense, the loss of Deebo Samuel may not hurt the 49ers too much as they still have ample quality pass catchers with Brandon Aiyuk, Juan Jennings, and George Kittle. However, it is the running back room that is looking a little light as the depth behind Christian McCaffrey is not much to speak about. The 2025 NFL draft is one of the better draft classes in recent years for running backs so they could take one even in the latter rounds.
