49ers Re-signing Kyle Juszczyk Indicates They Are Back to Rebuilding for 2025 Season

In what was a shocking move, the San Francisco 49ers had initially released fullback Kyle Juszczyk which had 49ers’ RB Christian McCaffery in shambles. However, now the 49ers U-turned their decision and brought Juszczyk back in their lineup on a two-year $8 million deal, according to Adam Schefter. He was an essential part of the 49ers’ core ever since he arrived in the Bay, back in 2017. His presence alongside players such as George Kittle, will only make the locker room stronger.

According to various sources, the 9x Pro-Bowler took a pay-cut last offseason to stay in San Francisco. Then this offseason in 2025, the 49ers again asked Juszczyk to take a pay cut but he had declined. The offer was apparently still on the table and if Juszczyk didn’t find what he was looking for in other teams, he could return to the Bay and that he did.

His return to the 49ers was celebrated by RB McCaffery and TE George Kittle who posted a story on their Instagram accounts. He’s well respected by the players in the locker room and is also a fan favorite.

Juszczyk has had a stellar career so far and for his performances in the 2023 and the 2024 season, he was named to the All-Pro 1st team and All-Pro 2nd team respectively. Last season Juszczyk had 200 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns, 19 receptions, 26 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown.

How Will Re-signing Juszczyk Help the 49ers in the Upcoming Season?

The 49ers have lost a lot of players this offseason and Juszczyk was on the verge on being on that list. They’ve lost weapons such as Deebo Samuels, Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, Charvarius Ward, Jaylen Moore, and Elijah Mitchell, and more.

Bringing back Juszczyk will help the 49ers maintain continuity on the offensive side of the field and will also help elevate the locker room. With the loss of all these players mentioned above, it would help to see a familiar face and give a little hope to the fans who have been concerned with the direction the 49ers are headed into.

Are the 49ers Trying To Rebuild Their Roster?

The 49ers GM John Lynch said that he wants to see the team get younger and cheaper, and so far they are trying to do exactly that in the offseason. The only problem is that the 49ers haven’t gotten better and after letting all these players go, they may have become worse or perhaps not even a title contender anymore. One of the biggest questions that comes to mind is how do the 49ers plan to block for McCaffrey when he comes back next season, since there are reports suggesting that T Trent Williams could retire?

There are also a lot of concerns for their quarterback situation after the 49ers recently signed Mack Jones. Brock Purdy is in the final year of his contract and it is now pretty clear that he is not a top 10-15 quarterback as revealed by his 6-9 record last season. So will the 49ers resign him next season? Reports state that he’s looking for a $50-55 million a year deal but is he worth all that money?

Another question that comes to mind, after the 49ers let go of Dre Greenlaw is, who will replace him? All the pressure is going to come clamouring down on their linebacker Fred Warner who could be worn out due to all the extra work or worse could even get injured.

The 49ers are at a confused state for now. After letting go of all these players, we’re not even sure if they know what the plan is for their roster. With fans running out of patience and the organization running out of time, we hope they have a plan B is place!
